Hey everyone,
Just thought I would let u know whats been happening with me lately, I have a stricture which one GI that I see at the hospital wants to do a colonoscopy to see if they can fix it, but my regular GI says that the stricture is a blessing in disguise for me since I have severe faecal incontinence due to chronic inflamation in the lower end of my large bowel and rectum area. So he has thrown methotrexate into my mix of medications as a final ditch effort to get me well. They have postponed using methotrexate because I got hepatitis from the imuran and almost died so they werent keen on using that. So included in my daily pills now is Methotrexate 3 tablets once a week, also my humira shots, 9 colazide tablets per day because they have sometimes called my disease indeterminate colitis but past histology reports have shown crohns, I also take 25mg of prednisone per day, lexapro, folate, nexium and I think thats about it. Anyway my GI says he will give the methotrexate 2 months to see how Im travelling cause apparently it takes about that long to make any difference and if I am no better I will be sent to Brisbane to see a colorectal surgery and look at my options, very possible ileostomy, which at this stage I would be grateful to not be crapping my pants everyday. I am still so depressed and went back to work yesterday but only doing small 4 hour shifts but got home last night and bled terribly again. I am on disability pension but do find it hard to live on such a small amount of money with the high rent that Im paying. So off to work again tonight rolleyes . Just been on the phone with my sister and I couldnt stop crying again, I am a mess. Anyway thanks for listening. Wish me luck for work tonight, I wear the tena pads now too for protection. Hope u are all well, take care

I am sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. With all the meds you are taking I know it is hard to stay positive. I hope seeing a colorectal surgeon will give you some hope. I know after my surgery I was able to get off of most of my meds and that alone was worth the having the surgery. Thanks for keeping us updated. I will say some prayers that you are feeling better soon.

<<<"I got hepatitis from the imuran and almost died">>>

First of all, I'm very sorry that you're going through such a tough time. I hope you get things sorted out soon. I've never heard of getting hepatitis from Imuran, or any immunosuppressant. Do you know for sure that this was the case?

My daughter was diagnosed Feb. 19/07, (13 yrs. old at time of diagnosis), with Crohn's of the Terminal Illium. Initially, 9 weeks of Prednisone, currently taking 2000mgs of Pentasa.

andorable -

my crohn's was at the ileum and sigmoid colon/rectum area. i had surgery due to a fistula from my colon to my bladder which resulted in the loss of 8" or so of the sigmoid colon. since they were in they took out 2 inches of the ileum. i was lucky to keep my anus. i always had trouble with incontinence and i was on or had been on every med imaginable (my GI doc later told me that he threw the kitchen sink and then some at me with no avail). i was facing colostomy surgery but diet "cured" all my troubles. seeing where you are at, i strongly urge you to give it a chance. surgery is irreversible. give diet like 3 months like you would any other medicine. the best part is you have to eat anyway and there are no side effects. i recommend the maker's diet or the scd. by really giving it a try, you wont have to wonder after surgery if things might have been different if you tried the diet/holistic/natural approach. just my opinion though...

Crohn's since 1993 (17 yrs old then)
surgery in July '05 - removal of 2 inches at ileum and 8 inches of sigmoid colon (had fistula into bladder)
Nov '05 developed colonic inertia; July '06 told i needed ostomy surgery
began maker's diet in August '06 - now feeling the best ever with no symptoms of colonic inertia and i kept my colon
med free as of 10/31/07

hey all thank u for your kind words and your right crazy harry i do need to exhaust every avenue before surgery cause there is no turning back thats why we havent done it yet I have been suffering with this DD for a long time now and believe me I have tried several different diets so far nothing works even drinking a cup of tea goes through me. Also 73monte there is no doubt it was hepatitis induced by imuran it actually is a lot more common than u think there are others on here that have been through the same thing with imuran so very nervous about the methotrexate. take care all and thanks again
