Just found out I am going to have surgery! UHHH! I will have so many questions to ask to all of you soon. But, first what is the average wait time (Canadians please) for a surgery date? I still need an appointment to meet with the surgeon as well. My GI just made the referral.

Thanks.

My GI referred me to surgeon who I had seen last year. Got a call within a week from sugeon's office that his consultaion was in 2 days. Appointment with colorectal surgeon January 21st when we decided to do the surgery. Got a call Feb 2nd that surgery was scheduled for May 11th. Live in Alberta and surgery being done in major city.

I too will have questions.

I suspect it depends upon where you live and how urgent your surgery is considered to be.

I had my last surgery within four weeks of seeing the surgeon, but my surgery date was decided by a clinical surgical admissions committee which prioritizes urgent surgical admissions. If it had been an elective procedure and I had chosen to remain with the surgeon to which I was referred I might have had to wait six months.

I agree on the priority aspect, even for tests. Some people wait months. When I first diagnosed in hospital and they suspected cancer after colonoscopy, I had CT scan same day and further tests within the same week.
My surgery is not urgent and I am not suffering meanwhile.

And my first colonoscopy was the day after my doctor (who did a sigmoidoscopy) referred me to a GI. Barely had time to go home and do the prep.
