I have UC and I told my mom about this forum, so she gave me a question to ask...

She has had Crohn's for 34 years, has had several flares, but is now in remission. She is on oral Entocort (1 pill nightly), however sometimes suffers from "goo poo" for lack of a better term and mucus when she least expects it (standing up for example).

Any ideas?

From what I understand the mucus is generated when you are in a flare. The flare may not be that bad and the mucus may only show up when the "bad" foods are eating....causing the crohns to react.

I also get Mucus when I stand up, but haven't found out what's causing it yet, if anything inparticular. Sorry I can't be of any help, but would be interested to read the responses. I am in a flare at the moment though. Didn't get it when I wasn't flaring.
37yr old woman UK. Diagnosed with crohns in 95. Currently on 2400mg asacol, 100mg Azathioprine. Been on Remicade once which worked well for me, but they took me off it. Flared up again. Took Humira but it didn't seem to agree with me, but thinking it was now an infection rather than side effects from Humira. Now back on Remicade, had 3 infusions so far and no reactions as yet. Consultant wants me to have a colostomy bag fitted, I've refused and want to try as many options as possible. On Elemental 028 extra diet for 6 weeks.

Do you mean mucus in her stool or mucus leaking from her anus when she stands up? I get lots of mucus in my stool but no leaking. The mucus is part of the inflammation, I believe. If it is leaking she should tell her GI as there may be something else happening.

I have mucus in my BMs sometimes and my GI says that is from the inflammation.
