Good morning everyone.... I am wondering what type of probiotics you all use?  I currently am taking the flora type that someone on this board was talking about and it has served me well, however it is very expensive.   I believe it is very important for me to stay on the supplement, yet am currently looking for an effective cheaper brand.

Your imput is really appreciated :)

I was just about to post a topic with this same question. I've been thinking about trying a probiotic to see if it helps for awhile now, but I don't know much about them. I'm currently taking a multivitamin and omega 3 for supplements.
Diagnosed with Crohn's in 2008. Currently taking Entocort and Pentasa.

I have used Primal Defense Probiotic for years and my doc just gave me one I like called Align.
Probiotics are VERY important for anyone with CD - I ask my GI for samples :)

jtaylor- Probiotics put back the healthy bacteria back in your intestines so you can absorb all your nutrients properly (at least that is my understanding of it!!) CD leaves your intestines clean as a whistle and you need some bacteria or flora in there for proper digestion. So since our bodies destroyed our balance we take these probiotics to repair the damage
thats my interpretation of what I was told, someone might have a better understanding here..

I use one called primadophilus rueteri made by natures way with some success and it's very affordable, in Canada I pay 28.00 for a bottle of 90 which lasts me 90 days as only one/day is needed (many of the others require you take up to 4/day and you only get about 30-60 in a bottle). Mine also aids with lactose intolerance so I no longer have to use lactaid products, it also aids with high cholesterol and for women it aids with vaginal health. The only downside is it must be kept in the fridge (and purchased from a place where they will also ensure it's kept cold.

I am currently using the Align probiotic. I had tried the one recommended by Pb4 without any luck. I also tried several other brands and had no luck with those either. I basically had given up on probiotics, when my doctor suggested I try Align. It has helped with gas pain and cramping. It hasn't eliminated the problem entirely, but I'll take what I can get.

My point is not to tout one brand over another, but to show that one brand may work for one of us and another may work for someone else. If the first one you try doesn't work, try another. I must have tried at least 4 brands before finding one that showed me any benefit. I may still play around with other brands and try to find even more benefit.

I use megaflora. It has 90 vegetarian capsules taking one daily, and it has quite a wide variety of beneficial flora. They seem to work well.

I take (Lactobacillus) Acidophilus.. the brand I use is Origin and I buy them at Target... the bottle states on it no yeast, wheat, gluten, milk or milk derivatives, lactose, sugar, preservatives, soy, artificial color, artificial flavor, sodium (less than 5 mg per serving). Good stuff.
