I have questions and concerns regarding the use of Imuran by my husband. My husband has been on Imuran for approx. two and a half years. We became pregnant with our first son shortly after my husband began the use of Imuran. The pregnancy had no issues and we have a beautiful, healthy little boy. We found out this December that we were expecting our second child. We had previously asked his GI about Imuran and pregnancy. He seemed to feel that the biggest issue was of fertility problems. And that if we had issues of becoming pregnant that we might consider seeing a fertility specialist. However, this was not a problem and we became pregnant quickly. We should have been 11 1/2 weeks on Friday, February 13th. Instead, we found out on 2/11 that there was no longer a heartbeat and that it appears that the baby stopped developing at 7 1/2 weeks. It has been a very difficult time for us. But, we do know that we want to try again for another baby as soon as it is possible. However, we also want to make sure that we do everything possible to have another happy, healthy pregnancy. So, of course, one of the questions that has come up is my husbands Imuran use. Is it safe? Should he discontinue it for a few months and then attempt to become pregnant? Is there a link between Imuran and miscarriages/congential problems? I have done some research on the Internet, but it seems that most of the information that I have come across is between women and Imuran and not male use. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

There is some info on males, but it's all inconclusive. Some say there is a higher risk of problems, some say there isn't.

I went off 6MP and got really sick, still am and it's been 8 months now. Worst decision I ever made....
32 y/o male. Dx'ed in 1999. No surgeries.

Current meds: 25mg Methotrexate. 8mg prednisone. Udo's Choice Probiotics (30 billion).

Tried SCD, didn't work, now avoiding gluten and dairy.

At the doses taken for Crohn's, imuran is considered safe for the male to take while trying to conceive.

Hi, just wondering if you're still around on this board. Were you ever able to conceive another healthy baby? My husband was on Imuran and actually did go off of it for the recommended 100 days before we conceived, but our baby still had a severe birth defect and passed away only an hour after birth. We are obviously concerned if we should wait longer than 100 days or what else we could do to prevent this occurring again.
