I just had my surgery and the doc discovered a growth at the start of the ileum called a Meckels. She said that it only involves about 2% of people. I was wondering if anyone else has had /heard about this and can comment.

Meckels diverticulum is a congenital birth defect that causes most people no trouble, but can result in bleeding and infection like any diverticulum. I presume it has now been resected/repaired and should give you no problems. Google Meckels diverticulum for more info.

Wolfie,

This isn't answering your question but I would really be interested in more details of your surgery. Your situation sounded a lot like mine. Stricture in colon which we know is deep scar tissue, no pain, normal bowel movements. I have surgery scheduled in May.

Were they able to do it laporoscopically?  Pain? Bowel movements post op? Did they do something about the Meckels? Would appreciate updates.

The Meckels was removed.
Pain never hit a "10" after surgery Maybe an "8"
Pain right now is not there.
Bowel movements right now suck!!!!! Yesterday 4 times "D"
Today 3 times already and it's not even 10 A.M.
Getting depressed about the "D" !!!!!!
My surgeon gave my wife pictures of the section and the meckels, but I don't know if I can post them or if anyone would want me to post them on here. The picture shows normal opening to the strictured narrowing which was the diameter of a straw.
I'm glad I was able to see that although it does look like she took out more than 5-6", more like 10-12". :-(

My stricture hasn't changed as far as being only 2" long. Last year the surgeon said he would probably remove about 6", now they are talking 12" but guess they will decide once they go in. I was wondering how wide of an opening a normal colon is but forgot to ask the surgeon and wondered if you would get to see what they took out? Now I can ask pre-op.

I thought they said that that the diameter should be either the size of a half dollar or silver dollar. Not sure.
