diagnosed at 14...29 now...last year and a half have been in some form of flare. Was on 6-mp helped to a certain degree but not as much as I wanted it too or how the doctor made me think it would work.

My flaring is getting worse by the day...I have a stricture that I believe is turning into an abstruction as my stool are getting narrower and narrower and the pain during BM has become extremley bad...I have a high tolerance for the pain this disease causes but the last week it has went over 10 on the scale of 1-10...like 14!

I have a colonoscopy scheduled next month but called the doc to get me in tommorow so I can tell him whats going on...

I have no idea what the next step in treating me is and that scares me...I have never had an obstruction...how do they treat those? I have went from 150 lbs to 138 and probbaly loosing weight byt the day now.

Wow with a pain level that high you didn't go to the ER. A 10 is when you cannot tolerate it anymore. When I had a stricture everything I ate made me nauseous. With an obstruction the pain is much like labor pains and comes in waves. You cannot move stool or air thru your system. Once you start throwing up it is usually green bile like substance. There is no way you cannot go to the ER with an obstruction as they are too painful.

If the obstruction is caused by inflammation they can treat with steroids or other Crohns meds. If it is caused by scar tissue, some times they can dialate it during a colonoscopy, sometimes not. If it is scar tissue no medications will heal it and usually that means resection.

I am glad you have a doctors appt tomorrow. Hopefully he can get you feeling better soon. Keep us posted on what he says and if your pain levels get that high again, please go to the ER.

hey there...i have been having very similar issues over the past month or so...
extrememly painful (cramplike but super severs) when i have to go to the bathroom...
so bad that it has made me puke from the pain/spasms.
went to the er last week...contrast ct showed nothing other than inflammation of the colon.
doc put me on anti-apasm meds and cipro but the pain is still there.
i have lost over 25 lbs through this. trying to eat more but don't look forward to the pain.
good luck with the doc.

Thanks Nanners...havent thrown up green bile, but have been pretty Nausios... and the pains do come in waves...but its only during BM's...I usually am okay after that...Also I am only going twice a day maybe three times a day. Do you know what meds...I am so against taking prednisone again. I took it last year and it ravished my body so badly....I still have the acne scars on my backside...and it never put me in full remission...Do you know what other drugs I could be perscribed?

I had a stricture that was so narrow, the surgeon said that it was the diameter of a straw. She could not figure out how I was getting food through there. I had no pain, and normal bowel movements which also baffled my surgeon. My surgery was elective as I knew that my stricture was due to scar tissue.
My advise!Go to the hospital! You're better off going on your own and picking your surgeon if need be rather than a emergency surgery.
Just my opinion!!!

I just read about dialating of stricture which is a quick process and can be done during a colonoscopy...Does anyone know how long a dialation will last???

I had dialation last a few months but it always came back. Also, I had a an obstruction before and did not vomit like most people seem to. I did, however, end up having emergency surgery to dilate the area...Do you know where (precisely) your stricture is? If it's your anal canal (or perhaps nearby) you could be given suppositories to help keep the tissue soft.

I just asked my new GI about dilation. She didn't seem too keen on it, and said that stretching scar tissue is risky due to the potential for perforation.

As well my colorectal surgeon did not want to do dilation as long as there was inflammation present. Said there was too much risk of perforation.

My stricture and disease has always been in the my descending colon in the final part before the rectum and during some past flares I have had some rectal discomfort as well...but usuall isnt an issue...The pain is in the lower left side of my abdomen. My stolls are ranging from the size of my thumb one day to the size of my pinkie the next. Today was the smallest I have ever seen them about pinkie size.

What can the doctor do for me when I see him today...I dont want him to send me home for two weeks to see what happens I am in a lot of pain.

My stricture is in sigmoid colon but have not had an obstruction. I relate my stool size from thumb to pinkie in size, 1-5 times a day and slight discomfort on lower left side abdomen at times. I did occasionally vomit with bowel movement before being diagnosed and stools were even narrower. Initially put on Prednisone and and have not had previous symptoms since but inflammation at stricture still present. I am taking methotrexate by injection and according to colonoscopy it has improved the opening somewhat but internal ultrasound shows deep scar tissue and I have opted for resection.
