Anyone out there that has gotten pregant while on Imuran?  Anyone whose Dr's took them off of Imuran when they tried to conceive?

I have a GI who wants me on it until I actually become pregant and an OB who believes I should be off it if trying to conceive.  Thoughts?

There are many Moms on this board who have had babies while on 6mp, Imuran, Remicade and even Humira. All have had healthy babies. The belief is a healthy Mom produces a healthy baby. I am sure Inflamed, Stef17 or Chastity will be along soon with their stories. They are 3 of the most recent new Moms on the board.

Good luck,

Thanks Nanners, I know that others have used Remicade and both Dr's are fine with it, but Imuran had the "D" classification causing greater concern.

I just discussed this with my GI, and he said that Imuran has been proven to be safe for conception and pregnancy, but that they don't recommend breast feeding. He said there is more history on Imuran then Remicade for pregnancy, and feels more comfortable keeping women on it during pregnancy. Good luck!

Hi, i am on Imuran 100mg a day, i did not have any problems for conception. I am 28 weeks pregnant, my baby is fine and healthy. I have history of strictures, which i decided to stay on medicationf . According to researches 80% of patients that come off of medication during pregnancy are very likely to suffer a flare up, which can lead to complications and even surgery after the birth. Imuran is safe during pregnancy and actually is safe for breastfeeding as well. I am waiting an appointment with a top OB in London, which i will discuss breastfeeding and i will share with others the issues discussed. Good lucky!!!

i am 38 years old expecting my first child, i am on imuran, pregnancare and fish oil. :-)

Hi, my GI didn´t seem to think Imuran would be a problem for conception, she told me they´ve had mums on it with health babies. However, I didn´t take it myself while pregnant, am only on Entocort and Pentasa.

Good luck !!!

I took 150 mg of Imuran throughout my pregnancy with my almost 4 year old.  There were no problems whatsoever.  I also started out on 150 mg Imuran when I got pregnant with my 10 month old - I was also on Humira and was able to go off the Imuran about 8 weeks in (pregnancy does REALLY good things with my Crohn's) and just stayed on Humira the entire time.  There were no problems with her either.

My OB wanted me off Imuran before I even tried to get pregnant.  I tried that and had a massive flare and ended up in the hospital.  After discussing it with my GI, he deferred to my GI's judgment that it was fine and here I sit with a preschooler and a baby.  smilewinkgrin
