Yup! That old moonface just happens overnight I've found. Don't know about you, but my eyelids want a piece of the action as well and have puffed up too, making me look tired all the time, not to mention 10 years older.
37yr old woman UK. Diagnosed with crohns in 95. Currently on 2400mg asacol, 100mg Azathioprine. Been on Remicade once which worked well for me, but they took me off it. Flared up again. Took Humira but it didn't seem to agree with me, but thinking it was now an infection rather than side effects from Humira. Now back on Remicade, had 3 infusions so far and no reactions as yet. Consultant wants me to have a colostomy bag fitted, I've refused and want to try as many options as possible. On Elemental 028 extra diet for 6 weeks.

I remember when my cheeks puffed up so much I felt like they were in my line of sight! I miss the good things from prednisone though, like a good appetite and lots of energy.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's and put on Prednisone 3 months before my only daughter's wedding. Moonface, slight acne and 20 pounds heavier made for great wedding pics! Good thing I didn't have my dress altered before that.

Yeah, I currently have been rockin' the moonface too. I'm not too happy about it, I also look like a stuffed sausage. I was hoping to get off this evil Pred next week but I got sick for a couple days after I tapered to 15mg and then when I tapered to 10mg I had LOTS of blood in my stool. Really freaked me out. I'm feeling really depressed about it today, I'm so sick of having this horrible illness. Oh well, sorry for the vent. nancerini

Once when I was in the hospital, they had an IV in my hand. It came out of the vein, and when I woke up I had this huge gargantua hand. There were just little divots where my knuckles should have been. I now know what my hands would look like if I weighed 500 pounds smhair!

But back to prednisone, chipmunk cheeks do look fabulous in photographs tongue.

not sure I would recognize my face again if I saw it. I've been on this stuff for over two years now! The positive light is that I can see my face kinda looked like now that I'm down to 5mgs. It's so vain and stupid, I feel better on the higher doses, but it is SOOOOO COOL getting some of my face back, that I am resisting.

and, yep, when I first started, it was just one day, the face ballooned and at the same time the stretch marks appeared (though I hadn't really gained any weight at that time)

Even though I started at 40mg and am now down to 15mg, my face just now decided to "pop"... literally like after today's evening dose... my eyes are so puffy and I feel like a big balloon head... I'm supposed to be off of this in a few more weeks, hopefully the chipmunk cheeks will go away soon after..

I am on testosterone replacement and am newly diagnosed with CD or UC, waiting on IBDS7 for final determination.

I already have somewhat of a moonface from the testosterone, but it is not quite as bad as a prednisone moonface except it is permanent as I will never be off the testosterone replacement.

Please consider yourself lucky if you can take prednisone of another steroid to help because I cannot due to the testosterone replacement which is required for normal muscle and other function.

At this point, I hope some of the other medications prove effective.

I never had a problem with moonface or even gaining weight. I wish I could gain some weight. I'm 6' 165# male with long stick legs. I am extremely active though so maybe that plays a role in this. My friends wife has been on Pred. for a long time now and Wow! did she get the moonface and gain weight. Neither of them do any physical activities though, and the most exercise they do is walking to and from there vehicle and going upstairs to bed at night.
Maybe exercise helps,or maybe not. I just might be a freak of nature!

Got to love the prednisone eh! I was just starting to lose my "prednisone pounds" from the last round when my Dr. put me back on it... Now I have new prednisone pounds and prednisone acne! Also, my eyelashes are falling out which is freaky... Oh well, I guess it gives me an opportunity to experiment with sassy false eyelashes!

I agree with D-3 of 5 that we should try to remember our good fortunes. The other day at work I was complaining about stomach pain, then a few minutes later I found out one of my co-workers' cancer may have returned. She was crying and is so scared about whether she will live long enough to watch her children grow up. It really made me put this into perspective. As awful as this disease is I am so grateful that I am still able to work (I know not everyone with Crohn's is, so I am truly grateful) and that I expect to live long enough to see the children in my life grow into the wonderful adults they are meant to be.

D-3 of 5 --  I'm on testostrone replacement therapy as well, but haven't been told I can't take pred.  I'm on 5 grams of androgel per day.  Moon face or not, I don't want to be shut off pred when needed.   My first time on pred was wonderful!  I scarfed food like a mad man and loved it.

D-3 of 5 -- just checked out an Androgel website. Looks like I need to discuss this with my GP or GI. Crap!! I can't believe neither one mentioned it. Lucky to have seen your post.

DD 18, hates being on prednisone as she always blows up like a balloon. In high school she actually had kids in the cafeteria  throw food at her and call her chipmunk cheeks. Not only did she get moonfaced and gain weight, she also was moody, grew facial hair and had acne. Not at all easy for a teenager.

Anyone notice that when your moonface finally begins to go down you can really see all of the wrinkles on your face? Yikes!
