Hey all my MIL needs your prayers.  She had emergency surgery last night for a perforation in her small bowel.  This was completely out of no where!  She's been in and out of the hospital for a couple of weeks due to heart issues, so the surgery put further strain on her body.  I just got off the phone with my DH and he said she's still on the ventilator but they hope to wean her off soon.  I'm starting to wonder if it was related to an antibiotic she was on for pneumonia that gave her "gastric problems" ????????  She was just released Thursday from a stay for that.  Doctors are telling my DH they might never know what caused it.

Updating. She's off the ventilator and doing as well as you would expect. We stopped in to see her last night, she was talking but in alot of pain. I'm still ticked off that they never brought in a gastro on her earlier admission. Guess what? They still haven't brought one in. I told my husband if it were my mother I'd insist on a consult just to "be sure" nothing else is going on. When we live so close to Pittsburgh and I don't know why she insists on being taken to this local hospital.......I know it's her choice but I just feel better with a larger facility.

Thanks for your concern..

Glad to hear she is improving some. Maybe your husband or other family members should ask for a GI consult. It can't hurt! I will continue to keep her and your family in my prayers. Keep us posted on how she is doing.

Hi Does the surgeon have any clue yet as to what caused the perforation? Glad she's breathing on her own and what kind of pain meds is she on? Hoping her recovery is a good one.lol gail
