Every once in a while, I let myself eat certain foods knowing that they're going to wreak havoc on my system later. My BF can't understand why I would eat something knowing that it'll hurt later, but sometimes it is worth it. Included in this "bad" list, depending on how I'm feeling are cheesecake and milkshakes (because of the milk-I'm intolerant), and salads (which I love but my body doesn't always).

So as I sit here drinking my milkshake, knowing it'll hurt me later, I'm wondering if we all have foods that are "bad" but we can't resist. nono What are yours?

Chocolate soymilk, salad with blue cheese dressing, this sandwich from the mall(gluten messes things up) with provolone, herb mayo, and pepproncinis(I pick them out at least) on turkey.
Also, my fiance makes frozen pizzas and I will pick off cheese even though I can only at certain kinds and this kind is cheap/no good.

I used to eat "bad foods," but not anymore, I'm too scared to. I constantly fear ending up in the ER, and worse ending up in surgery. I even fear just having some minor gut pains. That's pretty much curbed my appetite for anything. However, I dream about forbidden food. Last night, everywhere I went, there was cake, and I ate and enjoyed. At least dream cake can't hurt me turn.

I hope someday I can eat a great big salad with lots of stuff in it! I haven't had one in a really long time.

Chinese food.  More specifically chinese buffet.  Theres an amazing one right near where I live.  The food is actually hot and fresh and you can see them making everything, so theres no shady business going on there (if ya know what I mean nono ).  I absoutely looooove it.  Steamed rice, chicken with mushrooms, those delicious little crab ragoons, mushrooms in brown sauce, chicken on a stick, and egg drop soup....the list goes on!! and of course those cute little sugar buns....to die for.

I find it hard to resist cake and ice cream at birthday parites. I can eat a bite of each and feel okay, but who can do that. My problem is in the quanity. I can eat one bite of almost any food but that is almost impossible. I find myself stealing from my husband's plate when we go to restaurants. He is always a good sport and never complains.

I would say Chinese food and Italian food. In fact, one of the guys I work with who is Italian, took me to an Italian Restraunt for lunch the other day. It was SOOOOOOOO good, but I definetly had a yucky gut the next day. Oh well, you gotta cheat once in awhile.

Cantaloupe(mom said I ate 2 whole ones when I was just 1.5 years old...nice on a hot phoenix day), oranges, watermelon, grapefruit...heck most fruits. And while I'm at it, a nice salad with butter head lettuce, nice vinegrette, and sunflower seeds. Oh and let's not forget the meats, I like pork but pork has NEVER liked me (even as a wee child), but I like my ham.
Kinda interesting that most of us included a fruit or veggie. Most people avoid them, and yet we'd do almost anything to eat them. Rebels we are...

bar - have you tried taking lactose pills before having your shakes? I can tolerate dairy if I take a couple lactose pills first.
27 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

You know, sometimes I can have a shake and it goes down fine, and sometimes it doesn't. Maybe I'm only a little lactose intolerant?

Right now, the problem (or at least suspected problem) is that my stomach seems to hold on to food for too long, and it makes me really nauseous and full feeling. So something like a milkshake makes my stomach feel really heavy. Just now I had a piece of thin crust bbq chicken pizza (CA pizza kitchen) and it feels like I ate the whole thing! I'm learning to have smaller meals more frequently.

Maybe your lactose intolerance depends on how damaged the villi in your intestines are. The villi secrete enzymes you need to break down food, such as lactase. If the villi are damaged, there are less enzymes available. If you take a lactase enzyme before you eat dairy, it might help. I take an all-around enzyme pill before I eat to make up for any enzymes my body isn't producing enough of. I take this one (http://www.giprohealth.com/prozymes.aspx) because it's SCD legal, but there are cheaper ones out there.

Also, your food may be sitting in your stomach too long due to lack of acid to break it down. Sometimes people even think they have over acid stomachs, when actually they're lacking in it. You could try taking a hydrochloric acid pill before you eat, such as the one here: http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Betaine-HCl-with-Pepsin

maybe u can have lactose foods with a meal. if u have a lactose item by itself it will cause more havoc on ur digestive system than if u eat it with a meal to kind of "dilute" the effects.. thats what the dietitian told me anyway
