Hey all - so i am coming down with my first cold since starting all these drugs...:(
i used to overload myself with vitamin C & things like that, but im thinking those kinds of things probably wont do much since they are supposed to boost your immune system & I am taking much stronger drugs to do the opposite!

any ideas suggestions of what i can take/do to keep this cold from getting any worse & help expedite the healing process??

Thanks!!

when i 1st started 6-mp i got a cold that lasted 3 weeks. it freaked me out so i stoppd taking the drug for a bit...not sure if that was the right thing to do but the cold went away soon after. i'm back on the 6-mp and my wife (a teacher) and daughter seem to be coming down with another cold...we're using a lot of lysol, washing hands, using sanitizer etc...i would eat healthy, keep taking a multi vitamin if you already do, wash your hands etc...

I've been on 6mp for some years now and have not really experienced any different levels of susceptibility to colds, or worse colds when I do get them. While the immunomodulators do turn our immune systems down a bit, in my experience the effect is negligible as related to catching or revovering from other bugs. Since a cold usually runs a week or so, I suspect you can do the Vit-C without doing any harm to the immunosuppressant effect. My GI has always told me to just handle other illnesses as i always have without worrying about the 6mp factor.

Thanks - I have actually been on 6-MP for about 8 months & just had my last remicade treatment about 3 months ago (was only on that for 6 months to get me in remission - which it did amazingle well!).
Luckily this has been my first cold in almost 8 months (not bad i know), so would agree that i dont think the drugs made me more susceptible to catching colds.
I guess im more worried about it going away, now that i have it...........i have been taking Zicam in hopes it doesnt get any worse. No stuffy nose yet, just sore throat, etc!
