So I'd been going along quite nicely for a while, and then boom! 2009 hit and the stress from family matters was a bit overwhelming. But I was managing until the beginning of February. My Father went out of the country for the first time ever and decided to abandon all modern communication and put me in charge of his responsibilities. I was already in charge of an elderly aunt who had dementia, and then I got a cold that led to bronchitis. My father's tenet died, leaving me to make sure the house was cleaned out, find a new tenet, yada, yada,. My aunt got pneumonia and I had to make all the medical decisions, and eventually the funeral arrangements. My bronchitis led to 2 broken ribs from coughing and of course, antibiotics. Plus I had my annual physical and my doctor found out I had a UTI, so I needed another antibiotic. Antibiotics and I DO NOT get along. So this week, the constant running to the bathroom started, with increased belly pain. I backed off on my food choices even more than usual, but still, on Thursday, I had a blockage.

What I'm not sure of, is, is it from the 2 antibiotics that always do a number on me and maybe when they have time to work their way through me things will calm down. Or is it from the constant stress I have been under since the beginning of the year and maybe a short burst of prednisone is in order? The blockage cleared in about 10 hours, but my belly is still sore and I'm still running like crazy. I'm pretty much just eating full liquid to soft food and a lot less than normal trying to rest my bowels. I have nothing planned for the weekend, so I'm just going to be gentle to my body and see how it goes. I'm kind of thinking I might need to do some prednisone though. skull Anyone with some advice?

Managing with strict low residue diet, keeping symptoms to a minimum. All test show small amount of ulceration, still have occasional blockages. But still have a great time with my 2 daughters and husband!

Dang my CD twin what a 2009 you have had!!! I am so sorry you are feeling so bad. I had a horrid sinus infection a few months ago and the anti-b I had to take, I only made for 8 days because it made me so sick. I think between all the stress and then being sick has just worn out your poor body. I do think the culprit is probably the anti-b's. If things don't improve with your liquid diet and getting off the anti-b's I think a little 10 day burst of Pred might not hurt. I did one recently and it got me feeling better pretty quickly. I hope things quiet down for you soon.

Ya, I'm thinking if I don't feel better by Monday I'll start a 10 day burst. I'm pretty much taking the weekend "off". Except of course that I'm a Mom and Wife and there are the usual things that need to get done, but I'm not doing anything extra. But I'm going to try to take a nap. And do the Benjamin Franklin thing, at least the early to bed part!

Hi Zanne, wow you certainly have had a rough new year! I am so sorry about your aunt and all of your stress. I hope the 10 day affair with prednisone helps, might be a good idea so scar tissue doesn't start to build up at the blockage site? Broken ribs!! thats awful, how are they now?  I hope you get the rest you need this weekend. Take care.  Shelley

I would definitely put in my vote for a burst a prednisone... If you were doing fine before the anti-b's, then I am happy to blame them for the down-turn (even with stress as a consideration, some of us don't stand a chance with anti-b's!).

I hope your year improves, Zanne... ((hugs))

Thanks all. Trying to take it easy isn't all that easy! But today has been a bit better, even so I think I will start a 10 day burst tomorrow. I really don't want to give this a chance to take hold.

For the first week after I broke my ribs I kept re-injuring them but I've gone a whole 10 days without doing any harm to them so hopefully I'm on the mend there. You gotta love the long term effects of prednisone. My love/hate drug of choice!
