Hey guys I am sooo annoyed right now. MY stomach has been killing me..really distended, crmaping, bloting, gasey, heavinss all that good stuff...It really leaves me with no appeitatie. Aslo been having trouble passing gas and pooping. I had a bowel resection in 2005 and 2007 where they just take a couple inches of my intestine out and sew me back up no bag or anything but ANYWAY

TODAY I called my GI and after saying I would like to try pred maybe for a little bit (Pred usually clears me up for a lil while) Im in college, on probation, and work so I really cant get into the hopsital until maybe after schoool is over. The GI tells me to just go to the ER. I call my primary doc and she says go to the ER and was realll b!tchy to me. She said "oh im gonna mark it down you refused to go to the ER"..but anyway why wont someone (GI PCP) give me some pred? They have done it in the past thats the thing that kills me or even just adjust my meds or something...I dont even know if I should continue taking my meds..

Ahh man help me out here guys I really dont have the time to go to the hospital im really doing good in school thuis semester!

I HATE it when docs get like that! I always blame the legal side - like they're so scared to get taken to court if you DON'T go to the ER, that they refuse to help you do anything but go to the ER. So annoying!

Might be a shot in the dark, but are there any chances that you have some old Prednisone bottles around that might have a refill left on them? I know my doc usually gives me Rx's for 4 or 5 fills on Prednisone, so maybe there's one hidden that you can "sneak" in at the pharmacy? I hate to be a bad influence, but I've been in your spot.

I know what a pain it is to switch docs, but it sounds like you need a new one, maybe?

Good luck with everything.

patient believe me I appreciate it becuase I looked and tried. My mom will keep everything but of course threw away all the old bottles of pred.

These pains are really kicking in now. I cant do this to my parents again. Im sure in a couple days if I dont feel better ill wind up in the hospital..but what would I do about school??..Probation...?? (BTW im not some hardcore criminal lol I got into a little scuffle down the shore this summer while drinking some alchol and got got charged for fighting and what not You were all young and dumb once lol...

Unfortunately what you did just talk about (unless it is an over the counter) is a drug felony (and a second strike I might add), and that is why I edited your post.

It is generally inadvisable to continue to be as you said "young and dumb."

If your current GI won't treat you my advice is to find a new one ASAP. I know it's a pain....good luck. Pred shouldn't be this hard to get, not like it's an opioid or something...

Ok I have to agree with the doc, if you are having trouble passing gas and stool you need to go to the ER. That is a on several triage decision trees. I know you know your body, but lets error on the side of caution here.

I would have to agree, you could have some kind of bowel obstruction or something going on, and that could lead to some pretty serious consequences. I would go to the E.R. for something that seriously, especially if it's still getting worse. If your G.I. sends you to the ER every time you have problems though, he/she seems like a pretty useless doctor. I know that it may be a total pain to go to the hospital, but your health has to come first. If you don't go and then your bowels rupture or something due to an obstruction, imagine how much more time you'll miss in the end and how many more consequences you'd have to suffer. It's better to be safe than sorry!

Yup, when I have these symptoms I am always sent to the ER too. The docs want to get the tests done so they know what they are dealing with before they start handing out the Rx. I know is sucks when you are busy, but it's more the nature of the disease than the docs.
Hoping to stay in remission after the birth of a healthy baby girl. On Pentasa during my pregnancy, went med-free 2 months to nurse (stupid), but back on Pentasa and still nursing.

Most likely the ER will give you prednisone.
By the way-get your meds filled at a pharmacy that lets you refill on line that way you don't have to scrounge for bottles with refills left-they keep track of that stuff for you.

I agree that it sounds like the ER might be the right way to go. However, it might just be a simple visit where they do an x-ray, give you pred and send you home. If I were you, I'd try talking to the committee at the college that has you on probation to see if they can grant you an exception b/c of this health problem.

If you are on Dept. of corrections probation and not school probation just call your probation officer!! Let them know what is going on. I was an intern po and loved the job but we don't read minds. Most likely if you were in the hospital and called to let him/her know you wouldn't be found as violating curfew or any of your conditions. It is something beyond your control and it happens all the time. Your PO will probably come visit you in the hospital just to make sure you are telling the truth and then you are in the clear until you are released. Then just update your PO that you are back home and still recovering, etc.

Hi Hope by now you have gone to the emerg as your Dr. suggested they really do need to keep a eye on things when we are obstructing.. sometimes putting health first pays off in the long run and I know going to emerg. helps ease the stress for me.. let us know how your doing.. lol gail

Well I didnt go and today I feel a lot better. I still only rarely fart and havent pooped yet but hopefully it will come. My stomach clamed down a lot since going on a mini bowel rest (only bland foods..not as much dairy)..Ill take this day by day and if I have to go to the hopsital I want to make sure I put in for a vaction at work first.

Ok, as the Mom of 2 girls in college, can you go to the college clinic. My kids always prefer to go to their own doctor, but the clinic is sitting right there and I've already paid for it as part of their tuition, and their doctor is an hour away. You might be able to get seen and get some meds that way, and a whole lot faster than at an ER.

You state you have had two bowel resections which indicates you have a history of obstructing and stricturing Crohns disease. That is a clear indication hat you may be obstructing again. Any doctor who just gave you pred over the phone with your history would be a fool. His advice and that of others here is appropriate. You need a CT scan and other procedures to rule out a dangerous obstruction. You need to go to the ER or some other outpatient facility that can do those things.

Agreed, and pain killers constipate and can make an obstruction worse. Your health HAS to come first in an emergency like this. Call in sick to work and head to the ER. I can tell you are desperate and looking for a miracle but unfortunatly that miracle has yet to be discovered. For now you have to tame the beast and get to a doctor. Maybe you should get a second GI in the town where you go to college. and like others said, what about health services? Get yourself help, NOW.

AHHH im in a rock and hard place. I feel terrible I want to to go to the ER but its a Fri..I might as well wait it out until monday when the docs are there. I know from experience you gain nothing on the weekends in the hospital.

Also my mom just flips out on me everytime I tell her im hurting. She doesnt want to be put through all this again. I told my parents if I go you dont have to come visit me everyday like they did in the past but they are still mad.

Well off to work in excerusianting pain ..  (Seriously DO you want to get kicked off healingwell?????? twice in one thread????)
which I been taking which calms me down a little bit but darn they are expensive. I hope I feel better like I said its just my sotmach but WOW it is tightttt

John510 if you are obstructing this cannot wait till Monday. You could perforate and then you will be in even more trouble. Quit being a martyr or you could end up hurting yourself even more. JMHO

PS You should not be taking other peoples medications either, that could cause even more problems in itself.

If you are on probation that is going to show up on your drug test. Then your parents will really have a reason to be mad at you. Only PRESCRIBED drugs are allowed on probation. You are an adult now and have to make adult decisions. Would you rather tear your colon and end up with a permanent bag or worse, or piss your parents off? If you are having a real emergency you WILL be seen on a weekend in an ER. And, it is still super early so you can get in before all the drunks. I'm on the East Coast so if you are in America it is 2pm or earlier. That is not the weekend yet. Get your butt to the hospital!

Well Sport, you came here for advice and help, these kind folks have given you the best they can. You have done nothing but ignore everything that has been said to you. You are not stupid, but a distended belly is not a good sign along with all your other symptoms. You are dead wrong, you can see gi's in the hospital on weekends. I know, been there & done that. In fact I spent 12 hrs in ER one New Years Eve before being admitted. I had a gi taking care of me the entire weekend. Quit giving excuses and yes, you best not mess with someone elses meds, if you are on probation and have a dirty UA you don't know what trouble is buddy. Also be aware that pain killers when metabolized and show up on UA's they can come back as a totally different type of pain killer, something you have never taken, thats a real problem and a hard to get fixed if possible.

You are really playing with fire here. Susie
