I went to my GI yesterday because of severe bloating, nausea, cramping, and intermittent diarrhea.  He gave me samples of Xifaxan.  I suffer from extreme anxiety when taking new medicines, to the point where it gives me panic attacks.  I want to feel better, but am nervous to take this. shakehead   Any experiences?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Blessings, Julie

Zanne is another one who has been using it for awhile and has good luck with it too. I think you should give it a try. Maybe it will get you feeling better soon.

I've been on it for almost 2 years. It has helped with the number of trips to the bathroom. When I started I was going about 15 to 20 times a day. Now most days I am down to about 5 or 6. I don't know if the Xifaxan has anything to do with the my prednisone taper or not, but I had already started to taper prednisone. Had been trying for years. I would be able to get down a bit, sometimes off for a few months, but I would always end up back to about 20 - 25mg. I have now been able to get down to about 5 - 7.5mg on a more consistent basis. I still end up having to do some bursts, but the last 2 years my CD has been better. I have had some other, weird things going on, but nothing that can be linked to the CD or the Xifaxan. It should be fine, and it may be wonderful for you. All I know is I don't want to have to ever stop taking it.

Managing with strict low residue diet, keeping symptoms to a minimum. All test show small amount of ulceration, still have occasional blockages. But still have a great time with my 2 daughters and husband!

I take it for extended periods as well and don't even notice a single side effect except that I feel better... It's a really tame antibiotic with only a tiny trace even making it systemic.

I get nervous taking new meds, too. I always go stay at my parents house when I go on a new med just so someone will be around in case I have a bad reaction.

I've take Xifaxan for SBBO and I had no side effects, no problems. It helped.

GO FOR IT.

Thank you all for your support and replies. I am going to take it right before I go to bed tonight. That is when I take my Xanax, am most relaxed, and am reading. Blessings to you all, Julie
