I'll be traveling to China next month.  I'll spend a couple of days in Beijing, about a week in Changsha and another week in Guangzhou.  I'm really worried about what I should eat for two reasons:  I want to avoid a horrible flare or food-born illness while I'm there and I'm a vegetarian.
I'm only going to drink bottled water while I'm there and I won't eat any veggies that haven't been thorougly cooked or any fruits that I didn't peel myself.  I'm going to bring some protien bars and other snacks but I won't be able to eat only that for two weeks. Any other tips about what to eat and how to keep from getting sick (either from a flare or from food poisoning).
Thanks wink

I have no problem w/ asian food. Last year I went to Singapore and Phuket Thailand with no problem at all. As long as your not doing SCD, asian food is pretty gut friendly. I'm sure you could get rice dishes, noodle dishes, and soups all vegetarian. Have fun!
27 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

I always thought that Crohn's was less prevalent in Asia, so I would assume that diet has some factor in this. I have heard that an "american" diet is one of the worst for people with Crohn's. I think you'll be OK :)
