Hi guys,

My doctor gave me a prescription for heme iron polypeptide (Proferrin) and I started taking it today. I was reading about it, and on the site I just went to, it says:

# Heme Iron has Fewer Side Effects: Less constipation, nausea and cramping than IV iron and reduced GI distress versus ionic iron.

# Heme Iron has Higher Absorption: Increased serum iron 23 times greater than ferrous fumarate.

# Heme Iron is More Convenient: Can be taken with or without meals(2). Absorption not affected by achlorhydria.

I was just wondering if anyone else here has ever tried this kind of iron. I was on Palafer before and the constipation made me stop taking it. This stuff isn't covered by my insurance though so it's kind of pricy compared to other options, so I really want to be sure that people have seen positive results. Haven't been able to find many reviews on it though...Do any of you have any experiences with it?

I take a heme iron called blood builder that i get at the local health food store. It costs about 15 bucks for 90 pills. each one is 135% rda. I take one or two a day. works great. I'm a total constipation-type and it gives me no problems at all and seems to work great....

oh, also, it's made only of food type stuff, nothing artificial, so it's really easy on the system. Hope your new one is too!!

Mine are about $80 for a 1-month supply! I take 3 pills a day. I think the one I'm on is also a natural product from what I've read. It's good to hear that the heme iron works for you, it's weird that I haven't been able to find much information about it. Seems to be relatively new! So far I haven't had any constipation, but it's only been 2 days. Thanks for the reply!

I started Niferex-150(iron polysaccharide) with 2 tabs/day. No constipation. I can't tolerate Iron Sulfate or Iron Gluconate
