hair loss can be associated with genetics (nothing you can do about it, your testosterone is TOO high, which could be a good thing) or due to malnutrition. I've found a lot of help through whole food multivitamins, and although they are expensive, they do a great job. Don't buy those geneeric CVS tablets (just expensive pee). I can usually feel the difference with the good stuff.

I would hope it's too much testosterone, because if it's malnutrition, you might be havng a flare up. I hope not, but good luck.

Have you taken Prednisone lately? My daughter lost a ton of hair while she was on Pred and for a few weeks afterwards. Or maybe the stress from surgery is causing the hair loss. Have you had your thyroid tested?

Biotin is what you want to take as far as a vitamin supplement

Are you on any Crohns meds right now? As Gwen said above Pred can cause hairloss, Imuran/6mp etc can cause hairloss. The stress of surgery could have caused it too. Many take additional Folic Acid and/or Biotin to help reduce the hairloss.

Good luck

Anesthesia definitely makes you lose hair. I asked my doctor because after surgery my hair seemed to fall out more.

No hair loss here, 35male, been on pred many years, I would look at genetics.

Rogaine may help, it's some kind of foam you put on your head, that helps to regrow hair, or so it claims.

Good Luck

When I entered my 3rd year on Imuran, I started losing hair (my case is not as bad as it sounds). But I had quite a lot of hair so I still have quite enough left. People don't even notice it all that much. But I do.

I know a guy who's perfectly healthy and he's 22 years old and going bold. So your problem could be genetic+meds...I guess us women are more lucky than you guys when it comes to hair.

My GI told me that chronic use of medication or chronic illness in general can have an impact on hair loss. As a woman I never really thought about hair loss until I started to notice crazy amounts of hair coming out every time I wash my hair. I used to have very thick hair (thanks to genetics) but now have very fine hair.

Come on guys........lots of women agree that bald/shaved is sexy! wink

An old black women that smoked a corn cob pipe told me this a long time ago. She noticed while I was working at her house , that my hair had begun to thin. She said, and I quote " them mens that hairs get thin in front, they is thinkers, and them what gets thin in back, they is lovers and them what gets thin from front to back,,,just think they is lovers." I found wisdom in her words and that was to not take it too seriously. Its just part of life and it has not bothered me sense. Hope you get an answer, but if not, your still just as much of a man.

I'm a woman and found my hair thinning first after tapering Entocort, and then after long term Pentasa use. I take biotin, folic acid, and a multi vitamen when I notice my hair texture getting funky. When it is seriously falling out I use rogaine. If I use it 3 months or so it puts a stop to the loss for awhile. I don't lose more when I stop taking it despite the claims from rogaine.
27 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night.  I take xanax prn for situational anxiety (aka no easy bathroom access).
