Hi I drank ensure plus when I needed the extra calories ...I am still eating like a bit of a horse now after being off pred mostly since March of last year.. are you eating good now? Perhaps find some foods that agree with you that are high calorie intake.. I like waffles and ice cream layered myself with a banana on top ...lots of calories which I don't really need but taste good.. lol gail

I can relate. I am 158 and can not gain a pound, I eat and eat and eat and still nothing. I'm a huge Ice cream fanatic and I eat it everyday.I kow for some people that if they even look at food they gain weight , but not me. I think it is just my metabolism.
Oh well, now I'm hungry for some ice cream.

Just chiming in here.... I wish I could gain a pound for everytime a chubby person told me...'I wish I had your problem". Like alot of us, I have to eat like a pig to gain or even maintain weight and when I lose it, I lose it fast! It drives me crazy. I want to be fat just once. What bothers me is I used to maintain weight normally for many years and when I had a flair about 8 months ago and lost weight it stayed off. I feel ok now. Not sick like I was and my appetite is good but I can't put the weight back on. What the hell? Just so you know your not alone.
Crohns 30 years. Ileostomy for 15 years. Symptom free for 14 years until 6 months ago. Now on Remicade and iron. Feeling like a champ!
God Bless. Tony

Yellowfin, that's what I'm afraid of... My weight was pretty stable at 107 lbs (I'm only like 5'3, so it's a healthy size). During my last flare, I went down to 85 lbs. I've always had a hard time gaining weight, so I'm worried that I'll never get back up to a normal size. I don't care if I get all the way there, but I'd at least like to not look like a skeleton forever! Is it usually easier to gain the weight back after you've lost it during a flare or is it like gaining weight normally for you?

I weighed 104 for over 20 years regardless of what I ate or didn't eat. I'm 5'2''. The most I ever weighed was 117 in high school. I'm now 57 years old. My first (and worst) flare brought me down to 83 lbs. in a matter of a few weeks.

It took me over two years to get up to 95 lbs. after my first flare. Then I had another flare and went back down to 83. It's hard on the body. However, after this last flare I started taking some heavy duty digestive enzymes and have been able to gain some weight back in a shorter amount of time.

The enzymes break down the food so that it's easier to assimilate your nutrients. If I had to have only one choice of taking something for my crohns, it would be my enzymes. The ones I take are called Theramedix. They are spendy, but what isn't? My meds are much spendier. I take two different kinds. PRX for before meals. Those help to attack foreign protein invaders, yeasts, virus stuff and bad bacterias. Then I take DGX with my meals to further assist with protein breakdown.

My nutritionist recommended the two different kinds. She herself has crohns and hasn't had a flare up in over 8 years. She has researched tons of enzymes and found those two to be effective and safe for crohns. The Theramedix brand has a whole host of different enzymes. I'm glad she did the research, because I wouldn't know where to start on my own.
