I have these horrible sharp pains in my left side. It hurts even to breathe. Does anyone else get these, or know what they can be from?

I thought it might be gas, but I don't think it is (burping, passing gas doesn't relieve the pain, nor do Tums). All I can think of is that it is possibly a stomach ulcer, b/c this is not a typical spot for my Crohn's pain. I am concerned though b/c I had this exact pain all day on a Friday almost 4 weeks ago before I had my worst flare to date (which I am still recovering from). So far no nausea, D or bad Crohn's pain, but I am a bit nervous since this seems too familiar....

I have left sided pain alot. They have determined that not only do i have crohns in the terminal ileum, but a 3" area in my large bowel (mid left side) and crohns colitis which causes a LOT of pain. . I cannot sleep on my left side and i have to take Gas-X each night or I wake up in so much pain I can barely breath! It lasts several hours and extremely painful. Dr. said it was inflamation and gases building in the narrowed area of my large bowel. I have noticed though that all my ailments are worse on my left side from my TMJ down to my feet and every joint in between. :0( I would check w/my dr to see if maybe there could be inflamation in the large bowel from your latest flare.

Interesting. Currently, my blood levels show that I have some serious inflammation going on, even though I am feeling mostly better (besides this occasional intense pain). Does the Gas-X help? I have never tried that.

It seems to for me. I've used the generic as well as the name brand, bout the same to me. I still have some gas in the mornings but nothing like when i don't take it. I also take it when I am feeling full/bloated or feel gurgling gas pains stuck on my left side...I can massage downward to help release the gas and pain.

I get it a tiny bit, but only when my pain in my LRQ is really bad.. it basically feels like I've been kicked in the stomach or something..feels like the pain extends across from my LRQ to my LLQ.

All my pain is left sided, even after my resection. My pain comes intermittently, with no rhyme or reason. Using a heat pad on the spot is soothing and I also sleep on my right side.
Sorry this is a problem for you, hopefully it doesn't lead to a flare.
Take care
Jo
