I would like to hear the answer to this too. I tried one Omega 3, 6, 9 and it gave me bad cramps, so I would like to take one thats not hard on the stomach.

I cant tell you the best brand- one of the larger vitamin brands is probably best- solgar etc. The important thing is to take one with multiple omegas- as in 3 & 6. Also if you keep the bottle in the refrigerator it wont dissolve until it reaches your intestines so you wont get stomach upset. Good luck.

I use 3 kinds everyday, for a total of 3000MG:

1. Green Pasture's Cod Liver Oil (Oslo Orange) - it's supposed to be one of the best cod liver oils out there

2. Spectrum Fish Oil gel caps (made from sardines, mackerel, and anchovies)

3. Carlson Norwegian Salmon Oil gel caps

It's best ot avoid omega 6's. We get alot of those in our diet already and they can make inflammation worse. You want to get about 500 mg of DHA per day. If you take capsels you may need to take up to 3 per day. I take Nutra Sea liquid - has all of the DHA I want and only have to do it once per day. http://dhaomega3.org/ is a great website for omega 3 research.
Crohns almost 17 years. No surgeries. Currently taking Imuran and Entocort. Also take multivitamin/mineral supplement, omega -3 oil, calcium and vitamin D. Eat lots of yogurt. Limit wheat and gluten as much as I can.

Have any of you who take the fish oil had a resection yet? The reason I ask is because I have had 2 and because of that fact, I am really sensitive to supplements. Many upset my stomach. So I am looking for one that does not upset your stomach. I can't take even childrens vitamins at this point.

Hugs,

Dear Mull, I have been on fish oil 4grams/day for my cholesterol, triglycerides etc,  the only fish oil that seems to work is from amerisciences, most over the counter suppliments here in the u.s. are worthless.  I come from a medical family and also my brother in law is a naturopathic physician.  I have CD since I was a kid(now 38)and have had many many problems- surgeries -problems from surgeries -etc etc etc, I wish everyone the best of luck, and prayers.  My own doc's (M.D.'s)along with my family all admit that there needs to be standards with otc suppliments.  Only ones from europe or very few from the U.S. actually meet standards, -P.S. "amerisciences" break down and absorb very well, which is important for those of us with CD or other abdominal problems- I have only been taking their fish oil for 6 months now and (are you ready for this) - my cholesterol was cut in half, yes half! and my bad cholesterol down by 40%, good cholesterol up by 15%, and triglycerides down about 40%.  Knock on wood, it seems to help my CD and skin also.  There are many brands, but would look toward something that has standards from europe or similiar to "amerisciences"  Again best of luck in finding what works for you and again bless us all-  Mike

I was told to take Salmon oil pills as they are much better than regular fish oil tablets. I was taking one a day for a month or two and than all of a sudden I started getting light headed. I do have low blood pressure to begin with. I stopped taking them and I have not had any problems with being light headed. I now they are good for you and I should probably start taking them again.Maybe take one every other day and see what happens.

There is a prescription fish oil called Lovaza. I like it and feel comfortable that it is mercury free since it is more closely regulated than the non presps. Good luck!
