i hesitate to post about constipation even though i manage it each day, I'm a constipation not a D type crohn's. I use milk of magnesia, which is a form of natural magnesium that goes into your bowel and attracts more water. It works great for me, but if you a normally a D type, I ust don't know what to say. so you know I have crohn's and strictures. My GI doc says it's totally safe and you can use it every day if you want -- however I just take a horse size dose (the max) once a week or twice, and I manage with that, and I go every day. If you were to use it daily, you would want to use a lower dose.... also make sure you are drinking a lot of water.
all the best.

I too suffer with more C than D. I use stools softners daily. They are not laxatives, but just help to soften the stool and makes it much easier to pass. Hope that helps.

I usually take fish oil and magnesium everyday to help. If that doesn't do it, I take a dose of milk of magnesia. I also avoid eating too many bananas and too much cheese.

Miralax is supposed to be safe for daily use, but I haven't tried it yet.

I suffer from constipation as well. Such a catch - 22. Too much fiber makes my stomach hurt, but then not enough and well........I take a senokot with stool softener every day. I also eat about 3 small prunes per day. Try hot beverages, exercise, a little bit of prune juice. Take lots of water and fluids too.

Last year I gave up most wheat/gluten and this helped for while, but eventually the constipation came back. Be sure to use some stool softeners. about a month ago - I got out of the habit and then literly spent 2 hours in the bathroom screaming and crying because it hurt so much. Since, then "I dont forget."

I've only been constipated once, ever. Not an experience I'm eager to repeat. I waited it out, but that doesn't seem to be an option in your case. Ramen Noodles always gives me the runs if I have too much water in it, so maybe some Broth would help. It'd certainly take the edge off the hunger, if youre so blocked you cant eat.

One more thing.....try eating at least 2 probiotic yogurts per day. Activia is good for reguarity or Stoneyfielf Organic. If you are in Canada Astro Vitalive (spelling) is good.
Crohns almost 17 years. No surgeries. Currently taking Imuran and Entocort. Also take multivitamin/mineral supplement, omega -3 oil, calcium and vitamin D. Eat lots of yogurt. Limit wheat and gluten as much as I can.

I have been suffering from constipation for years with Crohn's, seems like one day the d. stopped and the constipation started.  Anyway I have found great relief from the SCD Diet and the GREAT TASTE NO PAIN diet which I am currently on.  I hope this helps.

I've been eating SCD for almost 4 months. The first month I had no constipation, and I thought, "Hurray, problem solved!" But it still comes back every now and then. Supposedly, it your guts have a lot of yeast in them, that can cause constipation. Hopefully, with more time on the diet, I'll do better. The last month has been fairly decent though, constipation wise.
