My perianal wound is constantly being irratated by the mucus from the gut. Since I have almost no control it just comes out during the day. My wound care specialist says shes never seen so much mucus but it may be a normal inflammatory response. She wants to try a asacol enema has anyone tried this and had success??

Sorry I don't have any suggestions other than to keep it as clean and dry as you can. I know it is a bother, but maybe using a spray bottle of water to clean it often during the day will help the skin be less irritated. How long have you been on Imuran? It takes a while to take effect. If it would calm down the inflammation, I think your problems will be reduced. No quick fixes here, but hopefully it will get better over time. This disease really teaches you patience!
Diagnosed with rectal Crohn's in early 2007.  Several peri-rectal abscesses and two fistulae with setons.  Allergic to Remicade and Humira.  Currently on 6MP, and vitamins D and B-12.

Hi FallColors
Just wanted to tell you that by just reading your posts you give off such a calming and encouraging feeling. I obviously dont know you at all, but would like to encourage you to keep on writing - you obviously have a gift of encouragement without perhaps even knowing it.

Isa. 41:10 was a timely encouragement for me to read last week as I was feeling particularly low.

I have a fistula that is located right next to my anus.  It constantly drains.  I get 4x4, 12 ply gauze sponges from a local medical supply store (because it i cheaper there than a drugstore).  I take 2 of those and fold them in half, and put it right up against it.   It is totally in my crack, so it holds it in place without tape of anything.  Everytime I use the restroom, I change it.  I don't have any irritation doing it this way.

Thank you Annie for your encouragement to me! We try to keep to a minimum expressions of faith because we want to honor the Forum's rules. But sometimes it just slips out!! Actually 2 Cor 4:16 is really something to remember.

Hi Chroniemomx2. I use the same size guaze to pad my setons. The knots that hold the seton ends together are hard and sharp (ouch!), and the guaze does the trick. I don't even feel the guaze anymore. It would be weird to not have guaze at this point.

And look! My previous post has one of those new advertisements! When you put your mouse over the word "skin" you get a Dove commercial.
