I am in a flare right now.  The past few days I feel like I've been run over by a truck.  My whole body aches.  Even my skin hurts.  Also, I have been running low-grade fevers and getting night-sweats.  I feel flu-like.  Is this part of Crohn's?  Has anyone experienced this?  Blessings, Julie

I get this regardless of which med I am on. I feel, for me, this is Crohn's. It's rough. If the low-grade temps keep up, you might want to consider talking to your doctor about antibiotics. I've been "normal" temp-wise for 5 days now thanks to the Cipro/Flagyl. The nightsweats are still bugging me, but also are noticably better.

good luck!

It is totally a symptom!!! I ALWAYS run a low grade fever and my body is usually really achey. There is a herbal medicine called "Arcana Montana" that I have started taking and wow, really helps with the aches. Most mornings (like this morning) I wake up soaked and have to change the sheets before work (thank goodness my husband has a great sense of humour about it and went out and bought 10 extra sheet sets for the bed!). Night sweats is another of those annoying things that I find is a "symptom." Hang in there!

I was just diagnosed with crohn's disease 5 days ago.  I also had flu like symptoms on and off since 2006.   Finally, I started to take colozal and prednisone.  The prednisone has relieved the flu sypmtoms, such as severe joint pain, fatigue, weakness, low grade fever. I have even experienced blurry vision.

Thank you for all of the suggestions and feedback. I haven't changed any medicines. I feel awful..... Even my hair hurts, if that's possible.

Julie, don't forget the fibro. That can make your skin hurt, too.

Ivy, thank you so much for mentioning this. I started thinking that the Fibro is flaring, also. I wonder if Fibro can cause fever, also. Thank you so much for your reply. I feel horrible..... Blessings, Julie

Julie, how high are your fevers? Because you're on Rem I really don't think you should be ignoring them. I've been told that as soon as I get anywhere near 38C, I need to go to the emergency department, and I suspect the same is true for you.

Ivy, it's 99F with Tylenol. I am actually OVERDUE for my Remi because I am in the approval process for Cimzia. I'm one week late, but we feel the Remi was making me ill in other ways..... It seems never-ending.....

You're right, it never does end.

Thank you for being so compassionate, Ivy! It's a vicious cycle.... I feel my Crohn's flared, which made the Fibro rear it's ugly head, and possibly a "bug" put the icing on the cake, lol! All of this combined is now giving me anxiety attacks..... It's like the saying, "Which came first, the chicken or the egg??!!" Blessings, Julie

Yes, it is a vicious cycle, and that is depressing in itself. I'd say one severe medical condition is enough to cope with, wouldn't you?

And while I'd choose fibro over Crohn's any day (fibro won't kill you), the fibro symptoms are so, so hard to cope with. It's like dying of the worst flu imaginable... for weeks and weeks and weeks without end...

Julie,
Low grade fevers are the big indicator that the biologic is running out (it's effectiveness that is). Withing a few days or so after the next dose, they go away.

I hope you get your Cimzia soon. I also remember have some issues and delay with the insurance but ever since, they have been great (at Cimzia that is)

Fibro messes with your body temperatures. Usually we have a lower than normal temp and will feel feverish at 99 degrees. So, this might be fibro.

We run from hot to cold and back within minutes.

Feel better.

Thank you again for the posts. I'm as sick as a dog. I think I definately have the flu, because now I'm congested. I've been sleeping a lot today, and drinking plenty of fluids. My body just aches, I am very tired. The Tylenol controls the fever, but I have to take it every 4 hours. This to shall pass.....

Julie,
Have you called your GI yet? You probably should even if you think this is the flu. They might want to do bloodwork and check for an infection. Being on the Remicade, you can't ignore an infection.

Hope this passes quickly, and you're feeling better soon!

((hugs))

Julie - It's been my experience that the low grade fevers come from active disease. The night sweats are a common side effect of pred. When I was on it, I often woke up drenched.  However, since I've been off of it, I haven't had that symptom. My fibro flares often and doesn't necessarily cause a crohn's or arthirits flare.  However, when my crohn's flares, the fibro acts up pretty badly. My skin, hair, even the bottoms of my thighs when I sit and bottom of my feet when I walk hurt me.  Sorry you feel bad - I know how uncomfortable it is.

It's hard for my peers and family to understand this pain. They express concern, but I can tell in their eyes that they have no idea what I'm going through.

We'll get through this together.

Julie- Fellow CDer & Fibromite here. My CD is currently in remission (loose term) anyway, nothing is active and bloodwork, sed rate, cbc, etc is normal and I still run low grade fever 24/7. I'm with Ivy...sounds like the Fibro to me! Do you see a Rheumy? Mine Rx'd me Ultracet (Tramadol) to stop the run over by a truck feeling and it worked like a charm! However, I do take the maximum dose daily. I can't see breaking out the big guns, i.e.; Cymbalta unless I have too. I can not survive the Fibro without the Ultracet! Hope you get straight soon, I'm sure this is grating your nerves as well!
Dx'd Jan'06, 1st Resection 7/06, Humira, Imuran, B12 injections, Nexium, Lexapro, Nulev, Glucosamine, Multi-Vitamin, Calcium Citrate, Ultracet. Secondary conditions: Psorasis, Osteoarthritis, Fibromyalgia, Lactose Intolerant, gallstones, kidney stones & peri-menopausal.
