I just read the "Palpitations" post about someone who got palpitations from Flagyl. I about fell over! I just went to the ER yesterday from severe palpitations that started the day after I started Flagyl. I didn't even think of that connection because I have taken it before and it didnt have that effect. I quit taking it anyway because I wasnt sure what was causing them. The ER said I was dehydrated and anemic but since reading that on the other post I have to ask if anyone else has ever suffered from palps while taking Flagyl. My heart is almost back to normal this morning but I havent taken the flagyl for two days either. It was really helping my belly problem so hopefully there is an alternative.

I've been noticing what I think of as PVCs quite a bit lately.  Quite a weird feeling, but not dangerous to my awareness.  Is that what you're feeling?  It's as if the heart skips a beat then when it pumps next there's a swoosh of blood.  (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premature_ventricular_contraction

Since I get them anyway, I am continuing on with my Flagyl treatment.  They do seem more frequent though.

Yes, that is what I was experiencing. It felt like missed or skipped beats almost constantly when I stood up. No pain or lightheadedness or anything else, just the skipping thing. Very scary. All the tests at the ER came back good so at least that put my mind at ease but I won't be taking Flagyl again until I hear back from my GI and some other posts here. Like you I have had them in the past but not as bad as this time or as continuosly.

Hi Yellow,

It was me who posted that about my 13 y.o. son.  The morning after he started the Flagyl, he told me his heart was pounding as though he had just run a marathon... He was standing still at the time.  You can imagine the fright that gave us.  It is a lesser known side effect of the Flagyl and it stopped a few days after he went off it, as in your case.  Scary stuff that I wish the doctors would warn us about....

13 y.o. ds diagnosed with Crohn's this year.
My father and sister have it too.

DS is currently on Pentasa, Perinethol and Euro-Fer. Hoping to see some improvement soon...
