I started Cimzia about a month ago and just wanted to share my experience thus far.  I was previously on remicade, which initially worked like a miracle but eventually wore off after about 1.5yrs.  I was then put on Humira, which produced a very similar reaction and I was completely symptom free for another 1.5yrs.  However, about 4 months ago the Humira also started to lose its effectiveness and I've been on a rapid decline ever since.  After switching to a new doctor, and working with him for a few months, we decided to try Cimzia in hopes that I would have a similar experience to the other biologics that I have been on in the past (remicade/humira)  Unfortunately, I haven't noticed much of a change... certainly not the complete reversal that I felt with remicade/humira.  I am coming up on the 3rd and final loading dose next week and the doc says that he'll give me 2 weeks after that before considering this medication as "ineffective."

My next option will be 6-MP, another medication that I have not yet tried.  Having seemingly become immune to the biologics, I'm hoping that the 6-MP will get me back to normal because it seems like I'm running out of options.  In the past 4 months, I've dropped about 40lbs and I've been struggling just to get through each day.  This week, I finally got to the point where I really couldn't stand the pain any longer and my doc reluctantly prescribed 40mg of Prednisone, which will hopefully hold me over until I can start the 6-MP.  I will be tappering the pred 5mg every 5 days and I should be able to come off right about the time that I would be starting the 6-MP.

Anyway, I know there are a few others here that have started Cimzia recently and I would be interested to hear what kind of results you have seen.  I hope those of you that are trying it for the first time have a bit more positive story to share.

Thanks for sharing your experience. We don't have lots of people that have used Cimzia so the more reports the better. I have was on Remicade for 2.5 years until it stopped working, then Humira for 2.5 months when I had a severe reaction. I have been off all biologics for 16 months and my guts are in remission - I believe the remission is being maintained by Imuran. I started Imuran in 2004 when I started Remicade.

Hi....
I am new to this site. I have moderate to severe RA. I have been on prednisone since day1....15 year. It has caused osteopenia, anxiety,
Nervousness, hair loss, insomnia, false sense of well being, hypertension....and I don't know what else.
The last four years were improved by using embrel for two years and humera for two years. Although they helped, the cimzia which I have been on for six weeks is working well for me. I have decreased my prednisone to 4mg. Wow! During the fifteen years I took a range of 15 to 20 mg, I hope to be off the prednisone, soon. Trying to taper very
slowly. The inflammation is in check and I am getting some of the functionality back in my right hand. I guess the inflammation that I had did damage to my tendons. Not sure how much can be recovered in that respect. I do feel better.

So, in my case the cimzia is great. I am getting a bit itchy and hope that it is not a sign that I won't be able to continue the cimzia. I'm worried about that. The itching is very mild. Also my allergies are kicking in because the prednisone helps that.
Ps..the cimzia helped me alot after the first loading dose.
Be well....
