Has anyone had dental work (ie. fillings, tooth extraction) while on humira?...do you have to go off the med prior to these procedures?....

I had fillings replaced and a bone graft under one molar while on Remicade. My GI said it was not necessary for the procedures I was having. Fillings should not pose any problem but you probably should check about the extraction. A biologic might effect healing and an extraction is a minor surgical procedure. Also, because you are on Entocort, a steroid, some adjustments might need to be made.

I'm actually not scheduled for anything...I was just asking b/c I think I may have a cavity and didn't know how this (or any dental work) was handled as I'm only 1 month into the treatment...in regards to the entocort, I just weaned down to 3mg and I'm hoping to be off of it in two weeks...humira is definitely working but it's a scary drug in relation to colds, infections, etc....good to know that fillings shouldn't be a problem...thanks IDES

I just had my wisdom teeth removed and I am on humira. Everything was fine I just went on an antibiotic like normal.

I just had a filling done last month actually and have been on humira since last September. It was exactly the same as the procedure I had for my first filling prior to having Crohn's or any signs of it. Point being, you should be fine :)

You should mention it to your dentist. I did to mine, and she said that for things like root canals and even a cleaning - if there's bacteria being stirred up, it might be worth doing a course of antibiotics. I just had a bunch of cavities filled (no extra antibiotics), and everything was totally routine and fine.
Diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in Jan 2007, though sick since mid 90’s. Currently on Humira and Protonix. Have had success with Entocort and Cipro; negative experience with Methotrexate.

I had a root canal. Ugh. Anyway, I let the dentist know and everything was fine...he said if he found anything suspicions they might put me on antibiotics, but I was fine.
