So I was diagnosed with Crohn's back in 2002 and went on medication (prednisone, asacol and purinethol) and stayed on them for about a year (was on the prednisone for about 6 months)... Although it didn't seem as though it helped with the pain much and I disliked my doctor quite a bit (was also 16 at the time) so I quit taking medication in '03 and havent been too bad off (besides the pain that seemed to flare up quite bad a couple times a year).
However 6 weeks ago I started feeling pretty bad and had quite a bit of diarrhea so I found me a doctor I actually like and just had my follow up appointment today after the lovely colonoscopy and barium xrays from the last two weeks.  He's starting me on 2 pills of Pentasa 4 times a day, which I plan on starting tomorrow.
Anyone else using this drug? Have any bad side effects? I just hope it works better than the other ones I was on and I can finally feel good or normal...

I just started Pentasa 2 weeks ago in addition to Entecort. I started Entecort 2 monthes ago and it worked very well for about 3 weeks. My symptoms came back and my doc added the pentasa. No results for me yet but I have heard some good things from others. Good Luck

I take the sister med Asacol, but have taken Pentasa in the past. These are the mildest meds that they usually start off with. I have been on the Asacol for years and never had any side effects. With the Pentasa you may see the beads in your poop, but that is normal. Good luck and hope it gets you feeling better.

I was unable to tolerate pentasa...after the first dosing I became ill 6 hours later with severe diarrhea, nausea and vomiting that lasted 24 hours and landed me in the ER for IV doc couldn't believe it could be the pentasa as it is supposed to be easily tolerated so I took it again 3 weeks later and had the same needless to say I stay away from anything in that class...I was very upset because most people have no issues with this drug....I'm always the exception, not the norm...I'm sure you will be fine and I hope it works for you....

I had really bad side effects initially, but I was also starting it with Alinia so it's possible either the combination or the Alinia itself caused the side effects.
In any case, it's worked really well for me after and I really would not want to go off of it any time soon.

I had to stop taking Pentasa after a few weeks. I got really bad muscle cramps, became unable to move my toes in one of my feet, and my heart rate was sitting at around 130. I was also getting really bad headaches for a few seconds every time I stood up. It is the mildest med though, so most people will not react to it the way that I did. Good luck!

I was on Pentasa for about 12 years and it worked well for me. I had a few small flare-up that were controlled easly with prednison until this march. Had my surgery and still recovering from it. On nothing but the pred at the moment, but weaning off of it. Good luck

Pentasa is really mild. I've been on it for years no side effects. It wasn't strong enough to get me into remission, but it keeps me there.
Hoping to stay in remission after the birth of a healthy baby girl. On Pentasa during my pregnancy, went med-free 2 months to nurse (stupid), but back on Pentasa and still nursing.

I have been on Pentasa for the last 6 years, no known side effects and I am not even sure if it is working. I am on maximum dosage. But, I am severely allergic to 6-MP. These drugs seem to work differently on each individual. Of all the medications out there Pentasa seems to be the one with least side effects and least effect on the disease, as far as I am concerned.

I switched from asacol to pentasa along with imuran and endocort. I have increased pain and swelling, however little to no blood in my BM's.

Good luck!!
