I just want to share my story of my experience with Crohn's and Pregnancy. And I pray this never happens to anyone. My 2 pregnancies were completely different. My first son I had not been Dx with Crohn's yet. But shortly after my symptoms started. 3 years later I got pregnant again. I called my GI doctor(who is no longer my Dr.) and he told me to quit taking my med. (entocort) So I did. And I explained that I was still having Symptoms from the Crohn's. Well 3 months later, I became very very sick. I was in and out of the ER every weekend it seemed like. And the NO longer GI keep saying it was a virus. And i told him I really thought it was my Crohn's (well he did not want to Tx me) So 2 1/2 months later(after going back and fourth) I got a new GI. He put me back on the entocort and a new med Asocal. Well my Symptoms never went away. So eventually I was admitted to the hospital for 1 month. They confirmed a partial bowel obstruction. After a week of not eating and being 28 weeks pregnant, the put me on TPN (food through a PICC line) I started to get better, and there was talk of me going home. Well a week later a had a HORRIBLE pain, and my blood pressure dropped to 80/40, my pulse was in the 150's, and my temp was 103. shakehead They were scared that my baby was not going to make it, let alone myself. They decided to do another cat scan (even with the risks and i agreed) They sent me to Intensive Care. I had never been so scared in my life, but I knew my time wasn't up. Well the cat scan confirmed a bowel rupture. They immediatly put a drain in my side (it smelled awful) But i felt so much better. So then I was released to go home with my drain and PICC line and Home Health coming to visit and back in the hospital 5 weeks later to deliver 3 weeks early (they decided it was necessary b/c i needed surgery) So when my son was 2 weeks old I went to have my first bowel resection. They took out 16 inches and my appendix(he confirmed while i was sick I also had appendicitus) And the surgeon said that when my bowel ruptured, since my belly was big from being pregnant, my body defended itself, and when it ruptured it attached to my liver. And he said that if i hadn't been pregnant he didnt know if I would still be here. So now its 13 weeks later. I have a happy and very healthy little boy and I'm doing good so far turn And I'm very very blessed.

Wow, I am sorry you had such a difficult time during your second pregnancy, but I do love happy endings! Congrats on your new baby boy and I hope you continue to recover.

Wow, I couldn't imagine being so sick with a newborn. Hope you are doing better and glad your boy is healthy.
Hoping to stay in remission after the birth of a healthy baby girl. On Pentasa during my pregnancy, went med-free 2 months to nurse (stupid), but back on Pentasa and still nursing.

Wow, what a story ! Congratulations on your baby and on surviving all this !!! Hope both of you will be fine and the illness will stay away... And hope you chose a better GI this time, really scary !

I had an appendectomy myself when I was 32 weeks pregnant with my first baby, not knowing it was Crohn´s yet (which the surgeon found out after opening me)- in a way lucky because I was diagnosed soon after the disease showed. Had a resection due to a severe narrowing two years later before I was allowed to get pregnant again and gave birth to a healthy 9 pound baby girl who is 8 weeks old today :-)
Diagnosed with Crohn´s in 2005, 3 surgeries, . Pentasa 2x2, Budenoflak 1x2, 30 yrs old mother of two. Boy 05/2005 and girl 03/2009

I flared the entire time I was pregnant with my daughter... yet both the OB/GYN and the GI doctors swore it was all morning sickness. They finally figured it out AFTER my daughter was born. Thank goodness she was born healthy, because I was definitely not healthy at the time.
Diagnosed with Crohn's for 13 Years
Currently on 75 mg Imuran

Tried prednisone, flagyl, pentasa, and Humira (developed drug-induced lupus and had to stop).

Accountant and Mom of a 3-year old
