Well, I know I orginally posed this question to most of you, but now I'm certain. As a spouse of someone on Humira, I am having an allergic reaction to it! It all started April 1st when my husband went in for his first dose of Humira. He received 4 injections. Well that night we slept together, and ever since then, I've been going through "hell" with hives and more specifically urticarial vasculitis. I've even been to the ER 3 times for help because the hives were so severe. So I just want to warn everyone, even spouses!!! We also slept together on the 15th and I broke out in hives again. I'm more medicated now so the hives weren't as bad, but I've been keeping a log of everything. My doctor's, the immunologist and my GI were both skeptical because it would be so rare and unlikey, but now I'm absolutley postive! After not sleeping with one another for a few weeks my hives just about had disappeared.  It was great. So we once again decided to put my theory to the test, and we slept together on the 1st of May. The very next day...I broke out in hives again. Today they are like welts in some places. Not that I want to share my sex life with everyone, I think it's very important to know that even spouses can have an allergic reaction to Humira. I'm calling my doctor in the morning, and I can't wait to tell her what has happened. Now I'm certain!!!!! So BEWARE!!!!! This is terrible and nothing I would wish on my worst enemy! :)

Current Meds:
Xyzal (5 mg every 12 hours), Atarax (every 6 hours), Pepcid (every 12 hours), Doxepin (50mg at bed time), Levothyroxine (.50 mg), and Ativan if needed, but I haven't really used it. I also have been loving Aveeno Oatmeal bath, and their calimine lotion when all else fails!

He also had another injection of Humira on the 15th, was supposed to do one on the 29th, but he decided he'd wait until we see the GI doc this upcoming week. So we're keeping our fingers crossed that there is some other new miracle drug to help his Colitis because Humira is just not going to be an option!!

If Humira is working for him could you two use condoms? I am sorry you are in this situation. At least you know not to take Humira now!! Glad you figured it out. Only you know your body!
27 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night.  I take xanax prn for situational anxiety (aka no easy bathroom access).

Yes, thank you. And we did decide to use condoms from now on..or atleast until we get this thing all figured out. It doesn't seem like the Humira is helping his UC, so I'm not sure what our GI will want us to do. Thank you though, I appreciate it.
