Does anyone else have trouble eating bananas? I used to eat one every single day and over the past few months I have been finding that my stomach gets insanely distended about an hour and half after I eat a banana. I have also noticed this happening with red meat too. Could I be missing digestive enzymes. hmmm.

They are the one fruit I can tolerate well. I have a niece who has diverticulitis and she gets the same as you when she eats banana's. Just goes to show, one can eat one thing and another can't.

Have you tried eating very ripe bananas (no green on stem, and brown spots on skin)? They have the starch broken down in them, which might help you tolerate them.

Yeah...it's really weird because I used to eat a banana every single day no problem...and now they cause me lots of pain.  I tend not eat really really ripe bananas because I don't like the texture but maybe I should try that out and see if I can tolerate them...thanks for the suggestion.  I am just getting frustrated because in general I feel better as in I am not going to the bathroom umpteen times a day but I keep having really bad problems with pain and bloating that seems to be unexplained.  My doctor told me to try pamine and I did that today and it caused me even more pain.  Sigh.

Cooking a fruit/vegetable often makes it more easily digested, so it makes sense that banana bread goes okay with you.

I fear I might have a mild banana allergy. My tongue feels tingly after eating one. I had a major reaction to cashew butter a month and a half ago, so I'm now freaked out by anything that makes my mouth feel even just a little odd.

That is so funny that you posted this question. The last 2 times this week when I have eaten bananas I got HORRIBLE pains! And up until now it was the only fruit that I could tolerate. Now I am wondering how the heck am I going to live with not being able to eat anything healthy!

Also for any of you on Remicade, when you are on it can you eat things that you normally couldn't? My doctor is wanting me to go on Remicade now. Pretty scared to try it but he said I can't let my intestines be like this forever. So here we go!

I am waiting to hear back from my doctor. I left him a mesage about this and the fact that I am having random cramping pain. He told me to try pamine which made me much worse. I will let you know if he has any words of wisdom regarding banana bloat :).

No words of wisdom from the doc...just a script for a hida scan. Lucky me :(
