In July I am taking the bar exam in two states.  I have contacted both states about being reserved an aisle seat (seating is assigned) and being allowed to have medication, water, and a protein bar with me.  I could even do without the second three so long as I could get up and use the restroom as needed without disturbing other test takers.  I don't expect extra time or extra breaks or anything like that.  State 1 was great.  They said since I wasn't asking for extra time I didn't need to file for disability accomodations, they would just save me the seat and I could have a protein bar, water, and meds.

State two on the other hand won't even give me an aisle seat without filing a whole ton of non-standard testing accomodation paper work.  The paper work is geared towards people with learning disabilities that need extra time.  I had to have my dean fill out the paper work, my doctor, write a letter about how my disability impacts my life, etc, and have it all in within 1 week or else I "may or may not have access to a restroom."  The exam is in a huge lecture hall where I could end up in the middle of a big row unless I jump through the hoops.  Ok I said, no biggie.  I printed the paperwork and filled in the information I thought my doctor would need.  Then I printed a blank one for her to write it in her own words.  Did the same for my dean.  The only problem is my GI recently left his practice so I need my primary to do it.

I went to pick it up from my dean and she hadn't done it yet.  Seemed super annoyed when I told her I drove in hour to get the paper work and I would be in the building for 2 more hours and could she please get it done before I leave.  She did, but in super sloppy unprofessional handwriting and just wrote word for word verbatim what I wrote on the sample.

This was yesterday.  I dropped the paperwork off at my doctors on Tuesday.  They ask that they have 48 hours to fill out any forms.  I called on Wednesday and they said it wasn't done.  I called today and reminded them it has to be RECEIVED in another state by Monday or else I don't get accommodated so I absolutely need it by Friday at noon to get the packet put together, get the number of copies required, and get it mailed.  She informs me they CANT FIND IT!!!! She wants to know if I can fax another copy.  Um, no I can't.  I don't have another copy here nor do I have a fax machine.  I do have a PDF but they can't accept email.  Awesome.  So then she says, don't worry, I'll put on your chart that you need this asap and we will find it.  Don't worry, um yeah, I do worry, because I'm pretty sure nobody just goes and looks at my chart.  So I begged her to call me asap and let me know if they found it or not.  I told her I could drive somewhere print it, rewrite it and drop it off.  She said not to worry.  I told her I am very stressed about this and that I absolutely need this accomodation for my BAR EXAM.  This is not like some permission slip for gym class.  UGH.  I am so frustrated.

I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night.  I take xanax prn for situational anxiety (aka no easy bathroom access).

Ok, just got a call that they found my paperwork. My doctor is not in today but will be tomorrow. She had seen my paperwork yesterday but was confused and didn't know what to do with it. So she did nothing??? Hello? She could have called and asked. Also I gave very detailed instructions to the desk dragon and I brought it in personally so that it would be super clear what exactly I needed done. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. I even gave a copy of a similar report my GI wrote for me at a prior time. So annoying.

I know how it feels to try to work with doctor's office. I placed my first order with edgepark for my ostomy supplies on Monday. They call today (My order should have been here today) but they say the dr's office doesn't have me as a patient. I have only been her patient since 2002 so they should be able to find me. So I have to call dr's office and get it straightened out as the dr has to give their ok for order. Why can't anything be simple anymore.

Seriously, as if someone would order ostomy supplies for giggles. It is not like you are accidently going to OD off of it.

I took the bar in Maine and it was great. The exam proctors were friendly and helpful, the other test takers were very nice and the whole atmosphere was generally calm (you know, for the bar exam anyhow). Maybe you should come to Maine!

(((Fitzy))) Reading your story makes me want to bang my head on my desk in frustration. Sometimes I feel as if they go out of their way to be uncooperative.

Sorry you have to go through all this! I am sure the stress of the bar exam is more than enough let alone deal with getting lost in the shuffle with your regular doctor. I hope they see the importance and get it to you asap so that you can focus where you should be able to focus! Positive thoughts going your way!

Erica, so funny you say that. I am in Maine. I am moving for a job!! I was originally going to be taking Maine and Mass. I agree, everyone is nice here -- except the proctors for the MPRE. I was supposed to have an aisle seat and didn't and they refused to move me. Also, I had to get up during the instruction phase and she made the whole class wait till I got back. But I did really well on it so the stress didn't get to me too much. I also still have two final exams which is why all this bar stuff is even more frustrating.

IVY - I totally agree. I just want to bang my head too sometimes.
