You say that you are on Levothyroxine, can I assume you have hypothyroidism?....I can tell you that since I was diagnosed with crohn's in January I have had major problems with my thyroid...my TSH has ranged from 16 to .1 and I can tell you that I have severe anxiety and depression when my thyroid is off....for some reason, I'm having troubles absorbing the synthroid due to the inflammation in my small bowel so I'm bouncing all around...so my question to you is, have you had your thyroid checked?...just a thought...

42 year old woman diagnosed with UC 1991, Jpouch surgery 1992, Crohn's diagnosis 2009

Past meds: bactrum (side effect: rash), pentasa (tried twice in a 4 week period, severe nausea, vomiting and D), levquin (ineffective), flagyl (works, hate the side effects), enemas and suppositories (ineffective), imuran- tried 2/09, landed in the ER with severe back pain and raised liver funtions....

hi mirandadawn - don't know the answer to your question but I'm wondering if what goldy3 says makes sense. I had surgery 8 weeks ago and just had routine blood test for my underactive thryroid - levels all over the place, so was glucose levels. I too am really up and down, crying loads, getting palpitations and getting frustrated at little things - put it all down to op and shock of getting Crohns but may be something to do with hormone levels as well. worth checking out?

Penny :-)

Yeah that was first thing they check and they said it was normal. So they said that isn't what causing it . My one doctor thinks it anxiety and depression or some kind of mood disorder cuz of crohns . Cuz they said that intestions give off chemicals that help your moods stay normal or something.

What do they consider normal? I'm symptomatic with a TSH over 4.0 and normal is supposidly up to 5.0...new guidelines like to see you between 1-3...

I don't know what they think is normal with the levels . They just said it was. Have ask this friday about it or maybe have them test it again. But they say its normal . They said crohns cause mood disorders or bipolar and stuff who knows
