I have been signed up to start iron infusions, I was wondering if anyone has had them and what to expect.
Any info is greatly appreciated.

I don't seem to react well to Venofer infusions, but I think that's rare. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Can you do me a favour and let me know what kind of iron you're getting and what dose? I'm wondering if I just got too much at once.

I had Iron transfusions for about 6 weeks I think. It was very easy, no issues at all for me. I had them about three times a week, I just sat in the recliner and watched TV in the office. It was pretty quick maybe 20 minutes or so. My levels are normal now. Good luck :)

Just found out I'm Pregnant :) Due date March 27th 2009.

My infusions lasted for 3 hours. Do you know what kind of iron you got for 20 minutes?

I had venofer iron . I had one every day for 5 days. They gave me 200 mg at a time and they lasted about an hour each. They said it can be pushed thru in about 5 monutes but most give it at a slower rate. I didn't have any problems except some headaches.

I am currently on venofer infusions.  I don't know what dosage i'm on but the infusion lasts about an hour to an hour and a half from start to finish.  I've only had two infusions and the first one took about 4 hours from start to finish because they give you a test dose first to make sure you don't have a reaction.  Anyway i have to go once a week for 8 weeks then we'll see what to do from there.  The side effects i'm experiencing is just really bad headaches and extremley tired afterward.  The headache lasts for 48 hours.  That the only thing that sucks about it.  Other than that it is a pretty smooth process.  When I go in the nurse takes my temp, my blood pressure, and my weight.  Then i sit in a chair and they start the iv and some saline.  I get tylenol and anti neause meds.  Then when the anti neasea med is done dripping they start the iron.  I just sit back and watch tv.  All in all it's not so bad.  Good luck with your infusion and hope everyone feels well.

I just had my first one last Monday, I have one the next 3 mondays as well. Everything went fine for me. I was a little taken back that the iron was actually a rusty color not clear, but I guess it makes sense, I felt like the outcast at the infusion center..haha.  Mine was about an hour.  Everything went fine for me, but I was constipated afterwards, I dunno if thats a side effect of iron? But it was actually kinda nice! Lol.
