Hello everybody, sorry its been so long, nothing has really changed. I am still losing weight, more constipated than loose bowels, but can still go up to 25 times a day. The G.I. from Kingston Ontario, said that he didnt think that there was anything wrong with me besides irritable bowel syndrome. He tested me for everything under the sun, including celiacs disease, and he also tested tissues for wheat and lactose allergy, all of the blood work came back normal. Now i feel really really stupid. I still have to do a fecal Fat test, which to me sounds really disgusting, but I have to do one, and take it all the way back to kingston, which is about 4 hours from where I live.  I am down to between 135 and 140 lbs, and when i started getting sick, I was 190
I lose weight and inches every day, and I have not changed anything at all. Nothing is different from when I was 190,
anyways, I thought I would give you all an update as to how I was doing.........
Take care everybody and have a great night!

Hi Kelly,

Have you had a colonoscopy or endoscopy done? I was in the same position as you, got tested for celiac and everything else, all came back normal, etc. IBS doesn't usually cause weight loss as far as I know, so I think that's a sign that it's very possible that it's Crohn's, and it can't really be diagnosed without a colonoscopy. A lot of people with Crohn's also have low B12 and I think I've heard that fibromyalgia is also common in people with Crohn's. Good luck with your GI.. where do you live if I may ask? It's too bad that you have to travel so far to Kingston! (I'm in Montreal).

Hi Valerie, I have had a colonoscopy and a small bowel follow through but no endoscopy, not sure what that consists of. I have had low b12 for a while now, and am having injections once a month.
I am in peterborough, but use to live near ottawa hense the reason for the gi in kingston, i waited long enough for the appointment that I didnt want to try to have to find another GI.
Where I was, is Perth so its right smack in the middle of ottawa and kingston and it just so happened that my doctor set me up with one in kingston, and i had to wait 6 months.

Can you do the test and drop it off at a lab near by? It may be worth a call to your GI who could order it through another hospital or lab and have the results faxed to him/her.

Joan
