hey - heres the gist of me & my crohn's at the mo!!

I've got thickening on my ct scans in the terminal ileum

some active crohn's in various parts - colon , term ileum ,duodenum

i'm on pred - and starting back on humira

since on pred my diarrhoea is going, going & gone!! & the big one I can actually feel hunger (first time in a year so that explains my excitement!) & my severe indigestion nausea vomit etc is virtually gone & i can actually get up in the morning :)

But theres a few bits still going on -

I'm getting very severe pain - waking up a few nights not able to move with it - also major probs re wind getting trapped - very loud gurgles coming from my abdomen area - major bloating that is leaving me wondering have i got pregnant somehow! - this pain is sometimes relieved by a bowel motion or a major fart! - I'm not one at all to complain of pain but for me its a 10 on the pain scale - i'm taking strong painkillers - as strong as i am being let & they about 60-70% relieve this pain. Also my back pain means I cant stand for too long - it seems to worsen with my abdominal pain. I get waves of nausea with this pain also - and i literally feel like i'm gona burst - somewhere, anywhere!! Also I've noticed this pain thing is eating into my energy levels.

My question is has anyone had anything similar - I'm wondering if i still have some active inflammation or if I might have a stricture/scarring issue as I've thickening on my ct scans. The pain if anything is worsening as the diarrhoea is settling. As in is there a possibility i need surgery along with medication- personally i'd go tomorrow if my dr said i needed it.

Also I've another radom Q - my doctor said i've got a lot of scar tissue in my throat & that i should show it to my gi - would it be possible that this could be crohns related - ie an old site of inflammation as i've crohns in my upper gi tract - oral crohns & duodenum

Thanks a mill!!!

hi Wild_swan

don't want to alarm you but the symptoms you are getting sounds like the build up (which I ignored and put down to IBS stress) to my recent hospital stay - small bowel obstruction and resection. I found I had bowel spasms that came in waves and yes, the pain was massive and I felt sick, and my back & joints hurt. if you aren't farting or having a bowel movement get to the docs (or ambulance in my case) a.s.a.p. I haven't really had problems with diarrhea as such - I get more worried about constipation and trapped wind - the pain is excrutiating and signals a possible blockage. I've had it twice before - due to scarring from my original surgery in 1996 and both times needed treatment in hospital: not necessarily surgery as I was put on a drip for a few days (no food and rested the bowel) and it all cleared up ok.

I'm sure others will add their experiences - just doesn't sound right to me that you're in so much discomfort.

let us know how you get on

Hi Penny

- thanks - your not alarming me at all - i'd rather an honest answer! - i had the same thing in my mind - i just wanted someone to confirm it!! I actually presented to hospital (not the one of my gi so they didn't really have a clue) with this & had dialated bowel loops on x-ray to 6cm - apparently this wasn't bad enough to suggest an obstruction? - and yea now you mention it i've been constipated some days too -which worres me more than the diarrhea. i'm on a low residue diet at the mo & I on 2 occasions ate high fibre - seeds & it defo made this worse - as do large meals. I'll be chatting to my gi during the wk about this - i just want to gather up as much info as i can - forearmed and all that!!!
