How long after an infusion of Remicade does it take until a GI will give you a different drug if you are changing biologics? Particularly if the Remicade seems to not be working?

Thanks.
Bad fissure Feb 2005, still have it January 2006. On Pentasa and Imuran 100mg. Some slight swelling and ulceration of terminal ileum. No other symptoms. Now on Remicade!

I am not sure. My doc did a short colonoscopy after 8 weeks of getting remi 3 infusions. He was not very happy with the results but I still got the 4 infusion so we are still waiting and giving it a little more time.

No I go to the toilet 10-15 times per day, and I am getting a littler tired but I am not going back on pred not way..

So i guess I will get another remi after 7 weeks and then see how that goes.

isergodur,

There are still things you can do to adjust the dosage so don't give up yet! I wish you the best.

Actually, whether you can adjust the dosage depends on the rules and regulations and funding agreements set by individual countries' health authorities.

The fact that you can double the dose in the US, or have infusions more frequently than originally specified, does not automatically mean that Isergodur, in Iceland, will be able to access such privileges.

We have talked about doubling the dose to 10mg/kg or maybe getting it every 6 weeks.
But I am hoping to get to try LDN if the Remicade does not work.

I Dont know what I am feeling these days, just plain hopeless :(
I feel like I just gone a whole circle and I am back where I started in October.

When I switched from Remicade to Humira, my GI wanted me to wait at least 6 weeks, preferably 7, because according to the manufacturer's studies, it takes 42 days for Remicade to clear the body after an infusion. My GI wanted me to take a week or so more than that to make sure the Remicade was out of my system.

I was just phased right into Humira without any delay.
Pancolitis >20 years, allergic to all 5ASAs
Tried everything under the sun (natural and alternative)
Some partial success with TSO but was too expensive to keep up
Remicade Humira, lots of probiotics, entocort, tapering pred again, maybe surgery this year

OK, I got an answer from my GI. He wants me to wait until one week before my next infusion, get tested for antibodies and if the test is positive then I'll be switched to Humira or Cimzia. That's a long wait but there's nothing I can do about it, I guess. If I were in really awful pain I'm sure he'd offer something for that but I'm doing ok.
