Hi, Has anyone got any advice?

I have had subtotal colectomy and an illeostomy with a mucus fistula. I was hoping to get linked back up , my small bowel to my sigmoid colon, but had a flexsigmoid test done last week and it is inflammed and strictured, very near the rectum. She said there is nothing that can be done and it would have to be taken out altogether. Can you tell me if there is anything that could be tried first - drugs, strictureplasty? Does anything work?

It just seems they want to take it out too quickly for me.

Thanks for your advice
Fatlass!

Have you tried Remicade? Maybe they could get the inflammation under control.  I had alot of my Colon and part of my small intestine removed. I had temporary Colostomy and Illeostomy. I have been there. The last one I had for a whole year and had to fight for surgery to remove the bad area.

I have been on remicade for about 3years and love the results.
Diagnosed with Crohn's Disease at age 10, now 38. Only medication I am on for Crohn's is Remicade but I before this they pretty much had me try all of the ones available at the time.  Have had 5 major surgeries. Had Fistulas but those have been healed from being on Remicade.  Been through it all. Finally found relief about 3 years ago when I found a great GI Specialist that put me on Remicade. If you need any info, please send me message.

Hi, many thanks for your reply. I am in the UK, so not sure what the alternative to Remicade is but the consultant said nothing could be done with the drugs or surgery!?. Well I don't want to give what bowel I have left away so easily...

As the stricture is near the rectum I thought maybe they could do something, along with the drugs to calm the inflammation. I just do not want to end up with a permanent stoma. The thing is I had my operation last August, and no one mentioned I had inflammation in my sigmoid, I could have used and tried steroid enemas in the meantime, although having said that giving the sigmoid a rest I thought it may have healed. I did read a post on here about someone who had a stricture near the rectum, but wasn't sure what the outcome was.

I will try and fight my case tomorrow.
Thank you!
