I thought that the following might be of interest and worth bookmarking.

My PCP dropped my insurance recently, and when I went by to get my records, they said it would be $40. However, they said that if my new PCP requested them, he could have them for free. What kind of sense does that make?

Doesn't it seem like we should always have a fairly current copy of our medical stuff? I can't afford to pay for it though.

Understand that these are the fees that they CAN charge, it doesn't say or mean that they HAVE to charge these fees.

Generally, from medical facility to medical facility, doctor to doctor, etc. there is no charge as a "professional courtesy".

Often if all you are requesting is a one or two page lab report or radiology report, etc. for your own records they don't bother to charge you.

If you prefer to keep your own personal file of your medical records it is usually best to ask for copies shortly after they are generated rather than waiting and asking for a bunch of them all at one time. That is when you are more likely to be charged.
