Hi, I have my coloscopy tomorrow morning and am taking pico-salax to clear out my stomach.

I was able to drink one glass this morning but the second that i took at 8pm made me throw up right away. It just tasted way too awful.

Now i'm afraid that the colonoscopy might now work. What should i do?

I couldn't finish the two I was supposed to take. I got through the first and still had a little bit of debris, but the nurses said that was fine so you might still be okay.

I think the first is always way easier...I hate how the terrible taste actually sticks to your throat no matter what though.

Hope your scope goes ok. Might want to ask for ostmo prep pills next time.

I am soooo sorry to hear about your difficulties with the prep.  It is indeed the nastiest part of the procedure.

I hope all went well.

On the recommendation of people on this board, I tried the Miralax and that worked very well for me.  There wasn't the obvious taste (although DON'T smell it).   I also used a plastic cup with lid and straw to reduce the smell of it.

I didn't even know there were pills available as an alternative....did they just start doing this or have I just been sitting in the dark?

I've been through too many preps to count, here are some of the tips that have helped me through.

1) Citro-mag is by far the least offensive prep (other than the pills which my doc won't give cause they don't digest LOL). It does taste like bitter oranges though, so if you hate orange don't try it.
2) Once your bm is clear your done. Even if your supposed to drink x more preps. They usually way overkill for us D people.
3) Angela's suggestion of the cup and straw is good, unless you can chug. Personally I like to get it over with as fast as possible, then hope I keep it down.
4) Plug your nose more than 50% of taste is from smell
5) What ever prep you use make sure it's ice cold. Your tongue tastes less when it's cold. You could also eat some Popsicle before and after each sip.
6) It's okay to take gravol with the prep. Alternately your doc can prescribe more powerful anti-nausea. My last colonoscopy they found a pill LOL but it wasn't a problem.
7) People who have a lot of trouble with prep can get permission to fast for a few days before, when you have D your usually clean enough after a day or two, but you are taking a chance.
8) Avoid "Golitely" how they can expect anyone to drink 4 quarts of that crap is beyond my understanding!

I hope your test goes well, maybe these hints will help with the next go round.

I had this happen with my first. I couldn't get enough down. Had to call the doc and they Rxed something else.

I also can't keep down the pills, but I called when those were Rxed and I was okay with just the liquids. You have to let them know, and they can tell you what to do.

LMills-- It's pills + drink. Smaller amount of liquid though.
Hoping to stay in remission after the birth of a healthy baby girl. On Pentasa during my pregnancy, went med-free 2 months to nurse (stupid), but back on Pentasa and still nursing.
