I'm really sorry, LMills, but we aren't allowed to use the forum for lobbying and activism, no matter how important that cause may be.

Ivy, I don't know what L was posting about but I remember in the past people posting about the bathroom access legislation and asking us to call/write our senators. That was never edited. As long as it doesn't involve fundraising are you sure it isn't allowed?
27 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night.  I take xanax prn for situational anxiety (aka no easy bathroom access).

I know this one doesn't involve fundraising...but it does involve writing to your state legislators to support IBD research so that may be why. Although, why is that not allowed if no monetary gain is involved and if there is no partisan lean?

Here you are; here's the relevant rule:

10. No posts of an overtly political or religious nature OR posts promoting advocacy of particular personal, medical, legal, religious, political, or non-profit causes.

My feeling is that this is a "thin end of the wedge" issue. People from all over the world use this forum. Do we *really* want this forum to be cluttered with lobbyists from New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa, Britain, the US, Australia, etc etc etc, all lobbying for their unique, though worthy, political causes? I don't.

As the forum rules state,

"The forums are intended for offering mutual personal support"

so I think lobbying can be done elsewhere.

I'm not sure what happened with the bathroom posts. I'm pretty sure I remember editing one, so if others slipped in, unedited, I apologise.

As always, you are always very welcome to take this up with Peter if you disagree with my editing. Mods *can* be wrong :-), and Peter also has leeway in interpreting the rules that we mods don't :-).

Thanks for the explanation Ivy and I think that makes a lot of sense.

No, no I understand. I didn't even think to ask him for permission actually so..in hindsight I probably should have done that.

And it's just a prewritten letter to be sent to any state's lawmakers to push funding for IBD research (as little as scientists get anyway) and support for all those afflicted so that we have easier access to live normal lives.
