So, I had a temporary ileostomy done last July. I was very against the idea, and had a really hard time dealing with it as a 28 year old, single female. Obviously no one wants to be in that situation, but I had severe disease and no drugs were working, so I felt I had no choice. I did however make sure that it was a loop ileostomy so that with a little hope and a lot of prayer, I could possibly one day be whole again. I was told it was possible it would never happen, and that the disease had to be 100% gone for them to reconnect. I sadly agreed, and have since then done everything right (something I am not known for) to ensure that the disease stay under control. Which it is. 100%. My gastro said at my last scope that she hopes her colon looks as healthy as mine. However, one gastro I saw said that he did not believe that reconnection was a good idea, and that he feels the disease would come back immediately and drugs would still not control it. My parents, who have obviously been though a lot of stress too due to this illness, have taken hold of that comment and are very, very upset that I am still chosing to go ahead with the reversal. We are not even on speaking terms right now. Does anyone out there have personal experience with this? Am I wrong to want to attempt a normal life? I mean, it's Crohn's, so no matter what it is going to come back....
26 year old female. Diagnosed with CD in 1995. Resection in 2000 due to perforation during a colonoscopy. Currently taking Humira once a week, Lyrica for pain mangement with Percocet for breakthrough pain, and Wellbutrin.

Hi i had a temp stoma in Jan and found it really hard to come to terms with even sometimes now and really can't wait to get it reversed was suppose to get it done after 3 months but surgeon said where he had operated on the fistula it wasn't properly healed and to wait till next appointment on 21st June and he will have another look he says he really does not like giving stoma's unless he has no other option.  my parents too have had a hard time of it seeing me going through all this crap and tell me not to build my hopes up of getting a reversal soon i understand where they are coming from because I  will be so dissapointed again! but they don't understand how physcally and emotionally  its affecting me. i don't feel like i'm the same person i was before all this. Sooooooooooooooo want to be my old self again good luck in what ever you decide to do keep in  touch and let us know how it goes Bev x smilewinkgrin smilewinkgrin
