Has anyone been treated at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona? I am considering going there for an additional opinon to my current treatment plan. I live in California so it would be much more convenient for me to travel to Arizona than to Minnesota. If so, could you please recommend a physician. Thank you!

I go to the Mayo Clinic in AZ for everything but GI stuff. But that's because I had my own GI doctor who I really liked before I started going to Mayo for the other stuff. Also, my GI doctor used to work for Mayo and they all still know him and love him there. I had seen Leighton there at Mayo for a second opinion and I liked him well enough, I just liked my own doctor more. But you should just go ahead and call them and try to schedule an initial consultation with a GI doctor if you can. They typically schedule a ways out if you haven't gone there before. That's another reason I stayed with my doctor, because without the help of my own GI doctor it would have taken 4 months to get a second opinion with Leighton. They are just super busy. If you have any other questions let me know and I'll be sure to try and answer the best I can.

Haven't been there (not covered by insurance), but I hear that Dr. Jonathan Leighton is really good. When I moved here, my former GI recommended him (went to school with him), and my GI says she consults him when she needs a second opinion on something.

Posted 5/31/2009 10:54 AM (GMT -6) GI had me consult with Leighton...Mayo isn't covered by my insurance...but my doc wanted another set of eyes to look at my case (My doc is real good...tries very hard to do the best)...

Also, it is on the opposite corner of town from me...took almost 2 hours to get there from my house...(I live in the SW valley, and Mayo is in the NE valley...), but I guess nowhere near as long a drive as you have...good luck and safe journey...

Thank you so much. I do have a local G.I. and one at Cedars Sinai. I love them both. However, I have had Crohn's for 9 years now and the Humira is starting to lose effect. My local G.I., thinks that a third opinion may be in my best interest. My insurance will not cover the consultation either.

Thanks again. Take care!
