I have an appointment with my GI on Thursday, and I'm trying to get my questions ready. For the past 3 months I have had bloating and pressure pain which gets pretty extreme right before a bowel movement. I have had no D, and it feels like I'm constipated most of the time, even though I take Metamucil and colace, and have bowel movements, that are sometimes small, but look quite normal every day. Sometimes I get pain on my right where my ileum is ( I have a small stricture there) but not crazy pain. I have no significant mucus, no bleeding, etc. I keep thinking it must just be IBS, because of the lack of bleeding or D, but I sometimes worry that maybe the inflammation is increasing and I need a change of meds. I kept track of my symptoms for the past three weeks and I was very discouraged to see that I have had only three days of feeling ok that entire time. I also have swelling of my eyelid that comes and goes. Any advice or stories from your own experience would be appreciated. I struggle with knowing what is "normal" for us vs. cause for concern about advancing of the disease process.

Maybe you could talk with your doctor about a good probiotic? I'm not sure what might be ailing you, but any time I have extreme bloating and pressure it is usually eased by a rebalancing of bacteria in my intestines.

I hope you get some relief! I too have IBS and IBD(crohn's), so I understand the mysterious nature of never knowing when to call the in the cavalry.

I agree with the above. It sounds like you could use a good probiotic. I got much the same way before I starting taking probiotics. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies.  I have tried VSL# 3 in the past and it seemed to make me feel more constipated.  Now I eat yogurt every day.  Do you have any suggestions for a type of probiotic that works for you?

I just take a lactobacillus probiotic. Sometimes you have to find the one right for you. Good luck!
