Hey everyone,
I am suffering terribly with swollen joints and inflamation in my eyes. I know a lot of you have had this before. Would love to know what treatments you are on for this. My hands and ankles are the worst. Hope you are all good. take care

I have the same issues with eyes and Hands, wrists and ankles. when I don't rest enough it is definitely worse. When I eat too much sugar it's worse. When I'm flaring it's worse. In the mornings it's worse.

I am just trying to keep moving and don't do the things I know will hurt things more.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hey No I havent been to a rhuemie as yet, I havent even seen my doc with the sore swollen joints, I am just so sick of going to the doctors and had hoped this would pass but its not looking like its going to. Just my luck, if its not one thing its another. At least I still have no pain in my tummy any more since ileostomy, it really has helped but now it seems the disease wants to attack me where ever it can. Thanks for your replies ;-)

My ankles swell when I'm in a flare. Very bad. Can't walk or drive for 2-3 weeks. Sometimes when I'm not really flaring but just don't feel great, my ankles stay just slightly swollen. Not enough to cause me not to be able to walk or drive but enough to pester me.

My ankles swell REALLY bad...oh, I don't know...maybe 1-2 times a year. My Rheumy immediately wanted me on either Remicade, Humira or Enbrel. Since my Crohn's Disease is not severe enough yet for those meds, I don't think my swelling ankles are either. So I declined the meds and deal with the swelling.

One of my ankles has been swelling consistently for the last three months. I also seems to have pains in my left jaw and my right pinky. At one point, I was on crutches for about two weeks b/c it was so swollen that my foot was turned inward and I couldn't put it flat on the floor. I had an MRI and Xray, which were both normal, except for showing edema around the joints/tissues. I have most recently begun acupuncture and am taking the Chinese herb Isatis cooling, recommended by my acupuncturist. I am also taking Vit D, Osteo-biflex, a multi, turmeric, Mobic, fish oil and Align probiotic, along with Pentasa, which I've been taking all along. My ankle has started to show improvement and not hurt so much. I am now in my 3rd week of acupuncture. It would seem that something in the last two weeks has made the difference - and what I've added in that time is the acupuncture and Isatis Cooling. I am throwing everything I can find at this thing that isn't an immune modulator. My GI wants me to go on Imuran or Remicade, but since my stomach isn't bothering me and now my mouth ulcers have gone away, I think I'm noticing some improvement. I will hold off on those drugs as long as possible.
I also had eye inflammation about a month and a half ago. My optho game me some steroid drops to use and it cleared in a couple of days. I believe he said it was iritis, and not episcleritis, the condition of major concern to Crohn's patients. My optho said if you have true solid redness under the upper and/or lower lids, that's what they worry about. Is that what you're experiencing? I can unfortunately relate and empathize with your situation. Best of luck!

When I can I try to float around in a swimming pool. The water pressure against the joints help blood flow and if it is not too hot water I do Deep water running, moving and it's better when I get out. Lots of sleep bodies need to recover from what ever is bothering it. Sounds like lots of different things work for different people. I'd rather not go on more meds either. trying to hold out as long as possible.

Ive been on Remicade since last August. The first 6 months seemed to go well but now Im lucky if my arthritis stays calm for two weeks after an infusion. I go back to see my GI on the 12th and I'm going to tell him it has stopped working for me. I hope there is an alternative treatment because my arthritis can be crippling. Also Remicade is suppose to do wonders for healing abscesses and fistulas. I just got an abscess last month so I'm sure the Remicade has lost its effectiveness on me.
Crohns 30 years. Ileostomy for 15 years. Symptom free for 14 years until 8 months ago. Now on Remicade, B-12 injections and iron. Feeling much better!
God Bless. Tony

I have really had good luck with an assortment of supplements, herbs and acupuncture to help with the pain of my Crohn's arthritis. I take: Mobic (an NSAID pain reliever that my GI said is OK for me to take with food once a day), Osteo-biflex, DHA fish oil at bedtime, turmeric and Isatis Cooling (a chinese herb); multi-vitamin about b/w 1,000 - 2,000 mg of Vitamin D. It took almost three weeks for it to consistently kick in, and I still have some swelling by the end of the day if I've been on my feet a lot, but the pain is SO much better. I can wear shoes again and walk almost everywhere, though I have yet to put on my running shoes and get back on the treadmill. It has also helped lessen the pain in my jaw and pinky finger, which is now almost nonexistant.
