Has anyone been tested for specific bacteria/parasites in the intestine? My acupuncturist has suggested such a test and I've read that they can be beneficial, but that conventional Western docs don't often do these tests. My acupuncturist says she had a UC patient who took the test and they found that the patient was missing a crucial bacteria - had ZERO of it. So she introduced the bacteria (I assume through a specific probiotic) and the person improved greatly. My acu feels she can help me successfully manage my Crohn's without having to go on any of the big gun immune-modulators. The test is b/w $265 and $365 out of pocket - insurance won't cover it.
Has anyone had these tests and were they worth it?

I haven't made the jump yet, but I just wanted you to know that you're not the only one contemplating this... I too have heard rumors from alternative docs that there is some kind of bacterial balance-type test.

Do you know what the specific test you're after is called? The price is much better than others I've heard of... I was quoted somewhere around $1500 here in Colorado for a bacterial and full blood analysis but wasn't given a price for just one or the other.

It certainly seems like a reasonable route... good luck, and keep us posted!
