I had my first injection of Simponi  (golimumab) today. It has been approved for active AS, moderate to severe RA, and active PsA. I took my prescription to my local pharmacy so they could start the insurance dance. I was told that this particular pharmacy charges $1817.00 per dose. I expect my co-pay will be $9.00 which is what my Humira copay was. My 2.5 years on Remicade was wonderful and then it stopped working. I had a severe reaction to Humira after 2.5 months on it. I have been off all biologics for 1.5 years and am flaring badly. I have right SI inflammation including a swollen buttock, enthesitis is multiple sites and am back walking with a cane.

My rheumy wanted to get me started right away. She had me get beaucoup blood drawn to get baseline readings prior to the injection. The manufacturer's rep had given her some Simponi samples so my first injection was on the house. I injected into the abdomen. No burning or stinging but I do feel some soreness at the injection site now [7 hours later]. I will let everyone know how this drug works for me. My guts have been okay but are beginning to "slide" these last couple months. I have had to watch my diet, avoiding more and more food items. I'll let you know if I notice any effect on my intestines.

Keep your fingers crossed that I don't react. I desperately need something to get this AS flare under control.
