I'm sorry you are going through all of this. I can't offer advice on the dilatation, but can the doc give you better drugs so you don't remember it or wake up? That sound like an awful experience!

I had colonscopy today. My doctor could not get through because of blockage. I was totally sedated and he is a great doc. However, it is now time for surgery...

I have a stupid question.
What does it mean when during a colonoscopy, the scope cannot enter the small bowel ? I know these scopes are only meant to see the colon, but twice my doctors have tried to get through to the ileum and couldn't because it was too small of an opening. Does this always mean stricture? They have never really explained this to me and just acted annoyed like it was all my fault ! The pain was horrible. Thanks.

Hi Daisy that is what is usally wrong as far as I know anyways but it could also be a blockeage or like I said a narrowing called a stricture which is my case, the scope can't be forced were it can't go the opening is just to narrow so they try a double balloon dilatation first through the scope and hope that will correct the passage through,my belly is swollen everyday it never goes down any more I look like I'm expecting if u know what I mean I'm on Humira now and seem to be resonding to it 4 a change the only problem with that is I always had severe diahrea now I am having formed stools which are as skinny as a noodle but very hard to pass so until this problem gets taken care of I have to go of the humira and run to the bathroom steady again cause I had so many bowel obstructions in my past there worried if I continue with the humira that may happen and I ruptured 3 times now that is also a huge fear of not being able to pass stool through the body so now I'm on a liquid diet again not so bad I got so much pain its not worth eatting any more u know.I hope that answered your question a bite if not feel free to send me an e-mail.Jenn

Hi Jenn.
Thanks for your reply. You explained things really well. I never could get an answer from my doctors. I had 2 small bowel follow throughs in 2006. One showed many strictures, the second one showed none. All my doctor said was that no surgeon would touch me now ??
Wow, you have had a really rough go with this disease ! You certainly sound positive and upbeat. How do you do it ?

Hi Jenn.
I live in Manitoba. It's nice to meet a fellow Canadian !
Yes, I have had the pill cam twice. All of my other tests were inconclusive but the pill cam very clearly showed Crohn's activity both times. The doctor who read the results said that he thought there were strictures present, but he wasn't positive. I got to see some of the pictures. Those ulcers aren't pretty.
