I have been wondering for a while if I might have Crohn's. For a start my mother had it, and she died from it when I was young (I'm 24 now). Since 2005 I have been having stomach and/ or abdominal problems off and on. When I first started recording it, I was vague in what I wrote, so now I don't know exactly what I meant, but I wrote that I began to have 'stomach pain' (mainly at the level of the navel, and the stomach isn't level with the navel, lol). At other times, or at the same time, I had problems with early satiety and nausea after eating. Apparently I tried antacids for the nausea and they were ineffective.

I made no mention of any problems in 2006 so I don't know if they were absent or I simply didn't record them (in my diary) but by 2007 I was recording in more detail. Since then the symptom that has come up the most often is lower left abdominal pain, above the hip bone. It is cramping and can be quite painful and when I've had it recently, is worse when I breathe in. It might be caused by gas; I don't know. But BMs don't relieve the pain. For the past couple of times I have noticed that the pain has happened at night a couple of hours or so after eating and lasts hours and by next morning has gone, but in my diary all I mentioned on another occasion when describing the pain is that I'd had the pain for three days but that the pain wasn't continuous. On a couple of occasions I wrote that I had the pain in the lower left and the lower right at the same time.

Now, for nearly a week, I've been having the early satiety and nausea again, but no abdominal pains, but at other times they can occur concurrently.

I know this doesn't sound much like Crohn's especially since I don't have any problems with diarrhoea or constipation but I think it is worth considering since my mother had it.

I am thinking of mentioning it to a doctor (although I can't see one for another month), but would tests reveal anything if I am not having symptoms? I've been told that a colonoscopy would show if I had Crohn's from damage to the villi, but from what I have read on here, colonoscopies sometimes don't reveal that people have Crohn's if they are currently not in a flare. Does this sound more like IBS than an IBD?

Thanks for reading.

I think it is worth mentioning to you doc. A pill cam might be something to think about.
