hi everyone..

for those of you who have had a CTscan on your ab for pain etc.. have you ever had them come back completely normal and found nothing yet you suffer from severe symptoms? can a CT scan show if you have Crohn's disease or not or even colitis?

I'm just wondering what conclusions can come from it..
i have had major illeus for a long time, but also have chron's, but i dont think i'm flaring so i'm wondering when i go to do my ct scan next week, can it show i dont have crohn's disease anymore?

and maybe show nothing at all even though i have severe pain etc...??

i just read a lot of people who are frustrated trying to see what is wrong with them and they don't get any answers.. thank you all in advance!

When I had a CT scan done of my abdomen it showed thickening of the intestine walls, build up of stool (stricture) and blockage – so I can’t help you there. I was suffering from a lot of bloating at the time and so I found out why. It seems to have settled (the stricture) on its own now, but I am dealing with abscesses fistulas and fissures instead (what joy).

Do you know that the CT scab has come back all-clear or are you just assuming it will?

It always shows Ileus. and I didn't know stricture meant build up of stool, because that was also noted in my last ct scan as well. i was just wondering if they can tell if you have crohn's or not as well.

i have chronic illeus problems and my doc doesn't know what to do for it. Do know anything about having chronic ileus problems? or how to treat them? i get them all the time and it usually starts in the afternoon and goes for about 6-9 hours at a time, the pain, the feeling of blockages, etc.. and its a lot of work to "break" that stuck feeling with TONS of tea etc..

i have scheduled ct scan set up, but it will be done in the Am and that is not when i have my problem. do you know anything about that at all?

No sorry I haven’t even heard of chronic illeus before, I just assumed from your post that you had crohn’s L sorry!! What is Crohnic illeus??

So you don’t have crohn’s but you’re wondering if you do?? I

M pretty sure you have to have a colonoscopy before they will diagnose crohn’s disease (that is my understanding, anyway) –they have to actually ‘see’ the surface of your insides via a scope.

My guess is that there is likely either a motility problem w/the small intestine (ileum) or a narrowing in the small intestine and that as you eat during the day the digested food you've eaten can't move thru fast enough and begins to build up as chyme either due to volume or proximal to a narrowing so that by evening it becomes uncomfortable and thus your symptoms.

I'm not exactly sure of just what chronic ileus is meant to convey and am just going by your described symptoms what the "mechanics" causing them might be.

Yes, I also have Crohn's disease as well. Chronic illues is something my doctor has no clue about either thats why he's stumped at this point and does not know how to treat me. He thinks its just a trigger from the Colitis.

CROHNIE- What you said sound so right to what i am experiencing...but the issues is WHEN to get the CT scan done. Everythign takes place in the most awful way later on in the day once the food i ate from the morning does digetst. I want to show the process of that happening of how my stomache get so huge to where my ribs almost pop out, i can't go to the bathroom and the pain of something stuck is there for 7 hours or more... but i can't show that because doing CT scans on out patient basis can only book me at 3pm at the latest. My symptoms start pretty badly around 4:30.

Anyway, thank you for your response, i just don't know what to do.

Can you wake up extra early and eat to produce the usual symtoms or do you have to fast for your CT scan? Just a thought....

Hi A CT scan will show blockages ,narrowings as mentioned above so if you are bloating up then it will show any narrowings that might be there. Not sure about eating though the procedures for testing is usually by instructions. Is this your first one? lol gail
